Has anyone use a private tour of Stonehenge and Bath? We would like one that we can access from our Ramada Hyde Park Hotel easily. We would also like to stop for lunch. Any ideas?

Hello fellow NYer.

There have been numerous threads about this very subject on these forums. You should do a search and you will find many of them. Check out this thread, on this page where I posted a few of my pix from a tour like this.

Companies like Evan Evans and several others do all day tours to several combination of places. We did the Stonehenge, Bath, Windsor tour and loved it. They may not pick you up at your exact hotel, but they have mnay places where a sort of satellite bus will pick up passengers and then bring them all to Victoria Coach Station where you will get the main tour bus.

This particular tour we went on didn't have lunch, but that was OUR choice. We had plenty of time to stop into a local place and have a bite to eat. Some of the tours do include lunch (you just pay more for them).

Again, do a search and you will come up with many threads dealing with this very subject.

Cheers

Len

In 2007, we chose Astral Tours which we found on the internet. They offered many tour combinations and we chose Stonehenge, Bath, and the Cotswolds. They picked us up about a half of a block from our hotel near Earls Court tube station in a minibus. There were 11 of us plus the guide (a history professor) and the driver. Lunch was not included but when we were in bath, the guide gave us several recommendations for places to eat. It was a long day but we saw and learned so much! They were even filming a movie while we were in the Cotswolds so we got to watch that as well. They dropped us off where they picked us up at the end of the day. Hopefully, Astral Tours is still in business. It was a great tour for the money.

Astral went out of business in November 2008.

In my opinion the optimum itinerary would be Stonehenge first, then onto Lacock for lunch and the afternoon in Bath.

You can google about Lacock if you've never heard of it. The George Inn is the place to have lunch, a 13th Century Inn witth character and good food at a reasonable price.

Harry Norman of London tours is a specialist driver/guide, an ex London cab driver who is entertaining and informative.

You are correct as I looked them up later in the day. Very sorry to see that as they showed us an excellent time. I saw where there is another company that has picked up some of their itineraries and they are highly recommended. Just Google Astral Tours and it will lead you to the London Toolkit, which talks about all of this.:)

Can Harry Norman take 6? It looks exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks

Email him and find out.

An alternative is offered through the London Toolkit web site. They offer private day tours where you could do this itinerary for 499 GBP for up to 10 people.

For some reason CC don't like people giving links to this very useful site. But just like the post above if you Google you'll find London Toolkit private tours in their tours section.
