How's the casino on Poesia?

Not asking about winning/losing. Just wondering about the size. What kind of table games? Good variety of slots? New slots?

Since this is a relatively new ship, I'm hoping the casino has all the bells and whistles.

:)

:)

got off the Poesia 4 days ago--

there were 2 roulette tables (only 1 was ever open), 1 craps table (open at night), 1 poker table (with a real dealer, not a video), and about 4-6 tables which I think were all blackjack ($5 or $10 min)- it didn't appear that they had any of the newer type card games (ie carib. stud, 3 card poker), but i'm not sure.

For machines - they had about 10 "game king" video poker (you could change the game Deuces wild/jacks or better, etc).

there were about 50 slot machines maybe more - I'm not a slot player, don't know if they were newer or not - but I don't think they had a "Wheel of Fortune" machine (which in the casinos I've been in, has always been popular).

although I do remember seeing 1 "sherlock holmes" machine - - http://www.casinolistings.com/news/2010/10/sherlock-holmes-slot-machine-unveiled-gtech-g2

this machine was released in 2010 - so yes, they have at least one new slot.

the other machines I remember "my rich uncle",,, "little green men"(?).

I only remember these machines because of the funny name or the artwork that was on the machine --- there were few of these machines - there were other machines that were more prevelent.

the slots were nickel, quarter or dollar -- but this was in the carib - not sure how they are rigged in Europe (where it's headed now).

We were on the Poesia Feb. 6 - 13. We play mostly slots and it was very disappointing. The machines are very old and boring. If you like penny machines - forget it. There are all of two in the whole casino, and maybe half a dozen nickel machines. Needless to say these were very popular and always busy. The tables on the other hand never got truly busy the whole cruise. I would say the Poesia has the worst casino I've encountered on a cruise ship - my comparison group consists of Adventure/Mariner/Voyager of the Seas, and Crown/Caribbean Princess. Sorry to say - you won't find the bells and whistles you are looking for

Well, I think you'll be disappointed, I was. Very small casino, slots on 2 sides, a few tables in the middle. I didn't play any tables, so can only speak to slots. Mostly older machines, not much new I hadn't seen before. Only 2 penny slot machines that I saw, the rest were mostly nickel and quarter, with a few dollar machines as well. Some of them were broken and out of service the entire cruise, and several of them constantly malfunctioned, would take money and freeze up, had to constantly ask for service, and hardly any staff in casino, so it was a long time to sit and wait for any help. One night there was hardly anyone in the casino, so at 11:30 they went around and announced they were closing for the night. Won some, lost some, but nothing very exciting, and not a very nice casino considering it's a fairly new ship, that's for sure.

  • 11 months later...

just returned from another week on the Poesia.

There were 85 slot machines - about half were mechanical reel machines (all quarter slots), and the other half were electronic (mostly quarter - some penny and nickel)-- all games were made by IGT.

There are 16 game king video poker machines and about 6 machines for electronic roulette.

there were 4 blackjack tables -dealer draws on 16, stands on 17 - insurance available but surrender not available. $5 miniumum when I was there. Unusual dealing - the dealers second card is only dealt after all players have made a decision (stand, hit, split). I've never seen that before -

Google search mentions that this may be "European no hold card" (ENHC) - the house gains an advantage because a player loses both wagers made on splitting and doubling when the dealer’s second card gives her a blackjack (in American casino play, if the dealer has blackjack, the game would end before the players had a chance to split or double down).

1 table of easy stud poker - didn't play it so I don't know.

Craps - was only open after 10 or 10:30. $5 minimum and SINGLE ODDS only on a pass line bet (never seen that before, cheapskates).

there were 2 American roulette (0 &00) tables. only 1 was ever open.

there were 2 poker tables - never saw them in use.

Casino was not busy - and was not smoking, not sure if they allow smoking, but it wasn't busy enough to get smokey even if it were allowed.

I have several friends (guys) who were happy with the casino LOL

one came out about 800 ahead with roulette in Nov

and a few others had smaller winnings

this last trip feb, a guy was up quite a bit but (like many who gamble) kept losing but still paid for his cruise and told me he came out about 200 ahead

I personally do NOT gamble. I did hear that the ONLY time the slots were "good" was when they first opened...just heard that, I don't play them myself

Good luck
