Baggage charges when taking Taxis?

I've been told that taxi drivers are now charging for baggage. Can anyone confirm this? I'll be flying into Miami and would like to know ahead of time if I need to budget this in.

I was there in June and wasn't charged a seperate baggage fee.

No, that's a new one... Airlines charge extra for checked baggage, but not taxis.

Taxis do not charge extra for luggage. But most airlines do.

The only airport or port taxi service that I know of that charges extra per bag is in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

 

Let's hope not!

Reading this just jogged my memory that last Saturday 8/22, when we got into a taxi at the Fort Lauderdale Airport to head towards Port Everglades, the "Fare" part of the meter was showing $2.50 and the 'Extra' side had $2.00. We had 2 pieces of luggage that the driver put into the trunk

 

Luggage charge or some sort of toll charge for the port? Taxi Driver induced pre-tip?

 

What is interesting is that on the way back from the port to our hotel for a post cruise stay, and then from the hotel back to FLL airport, each of those drivers never rang up the $2.00 'Extra' charge

The $2 is a standard port charge that all vehicles entering or leaving the port must pay. There is no charge for luggage by taxi drivers currently.

Last year in San Juan the taxis had an extra charge for luggage.
