cruisinggg Posted September 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2009 I've been on two Carnival cruises -- the Liberty and the Elation. The pool sizes on both ships were very small. Our next sailing is on Carnival's newest ship, the Dream. From some of the pictures I've seen the pools look small on this ship too. This, even though the Dream is set to be one of, if not the largest ship in Carnival's fleet. Why are the pools so small? Is this is the case on other Cruise lines or is it just specific to Carnival? mrpayroll Posted September 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Been on Disney, Princess, and Royal Caribbean and all the pools are fairly small. In fact i'd say ours at home is as big.....Really NOT meant for swimming. More for cooling off...
cruisinggg Posted September 2, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted September 2, 2009 I wonder if it's because of some regulation. Thanks for the reply.
*Mach* Posted September 2, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2009 The pool on the Carnival Dream is 30X16, 4'6" deep, same as the Conquest Class ships... :)
mrpayroll Posted September 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Bigger pool means LESS space on deck for chairs. Less chairs means fewer people sitting in chairs DRINKING. Bottom line is PROFIT..
gatour Posted September 3, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2009 Another factor is that water is heavy that is why it is used as ballast. Weight high up can cause interesting stability issues. There is a reason why the new RCCL Oasis class ships didn't fill in the central portion with cabins or what not.
djhsolara Posted September 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2009 Not that I've been on that many sailings, but on all of the ships that I've been on, the pools are generally not large. I believe there are there more for enjoyment and cooling off rather than for perhaps exercise, etc. I love the shallow areas around the pools inside the pool walls (whatever you call that). I love sitting there in the few inches of water that is there.
