Rhapsody-Texas

Recommended Posts

We just returned 6 days ago from our first cruise on board the Rhapsody of the Seas, which sails out of Galveston. This was the best and the most fun vacation I have ever taken. The crew and staff were very friendly, the stateroom with the balcony was awesome. The food was good and the daily drink specials were excellent. The band "The Courage" really knows how to get your hips moving to the caribbean beat. The evening broadway style shows were fun. On this cruise, they also had a magic/illusion show called LaRaf(Larry and Raphael). These two guys were incredible. The main dining room staff were attentive to our every need and gave us anything we wanted. The service was excellent!! We enjoyed our cruise so much that we have already booked for the July 11,2004 and December 5,2004 cruises on board the Rhapsody out of Galveston. These are 7-Night cruises with port of calls in Key West, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. I was thinking of trying out the Caribbean Princess for an Eastern Caribbean cruise. Is Princess as much fun as RCI?

We also just returned on Sunday. I have been on 1 Princess Cruise and 2 Royal Caribbean (both Rhapsody). In my opinion RC is far more fun than Princess. I think with the fact that she leaves out of Galveston helps alot. I myself am a Texan and find a cruise with 80% of the people from Texas makes it very enjoyable. We have found other couples that also live here that we will definately be keeping in touch with. Anywho glad to hear you had a great time and may your future cruises be just as grand.

I love the Rhapsody too. as you can tell I have been on her a few times. I cant tell you anything about Princess, I would just find a Royal Caribbean ship that did what I wanted.. There are sooo many! Might have to leave from Florida but it is worth it.

We've cruised both RCI & Princess and find they are more alike than different. The Grand Princess will be leaving from Galveston starting this Fall (November 04 - April 05). You could try Princess this fall for yourself. icon_razz.gif

Hi Sophie and mconthehighseas:

The December 5th cruise is my birthday cruise. I believe we booked a Grand Suite # 8508 for that cruise. The cruise we just returned from on the Rhapsody, we were in stateroom #7526, which is the room we requested and booked for our July 11th cruise. This room is very convenient and close to the elevators/stairs. The room was comfortable for the both of us, just like a regular hotel room but not as wide. The balcony was spacious however there isn't much privacy between you and your neighbors...but who cares anyway. The bathroom was more spacious than I thought it would be. The best part about the bathroom is instant hot water, the down fall is when you are showering, people tend to flush the toilets more often and you end up with a round of extreme hot and extreme cold water. I'm so excited about my next cruise...I can't wait.

Regards,

Fausto

Ah, yes, cruise fever, that incurable disease. And you seem to have a more acute form, balcony fever. icon_wink.gif

Other forms I've noticed: suite fever, aft cabin fever, Voyager-class fever, and back-to-back cruise fever. I dread catching these mutations, since I need to use some of my vacation time for visiting family. Please do not suggest a cruise with the family - the DH has vetoed that!

Happy birthday Sophie.

We sailed the Rhapsody two years ago and LaRaf were on it also. They were good. Did they do the transformation box again in the middle of the audience? We just couldn't figure that one out. Who was the Shopping Guide?

Balcony fever is incurable by the way.

Happy Birthday Sophie!!! Fifty is Nifty!

I wish our cruise was today also - the weather here in SE Texas has been abyssmal. At least at sea, they try to find you good weather. And if they can't, the captain has to do the driving, not me.

Hope you have a happy, dry, birthday weekend! Or as my 21-month-old niece would say,

"Happy Buhday, Cake, Cake, Cake!"

We're not Texans...from Michigan.

Wondering about logistics of getting to pier from airport, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

You all make Rhapsody sound great!

mmsoko.... as far as transfers from the airport to the ship, it's quite a ways from either houston airport to the galveston cruise ship dock. Best bet is to purchase transfers from the cruise line. They will get you there & back with the least amount of hassle. The only difference is if you have a lot of folks in your party (each will have to pay individually for transfers), then is when limo/car service begins to be a better option.

I have never gotten a service out of houston, but visit some of the Rhapsody roll calls and see what other folks have offered up as far as providers & prices.

TXSailor,

We also had a great cruise on Rhapsody the first week of March. It really is a beautiful ship, and the staff were all superb. We've cruised RCI 3 times and Princess once. While Princess was very nice, with good food and good service, we just felt that RCI is a little more "lively". The Princess ship was pretty quiet. In fact, at the aft pool, no music was allowed, as this was considered a "quiet" area on the ship.

MMSoko, regarding logistics, we were going to purchase transfers, then we decided to rent a car in Houston. It was a bit more than the transfers, but it gave us a little more freedom in getting around. We flew from G.R. to Houston on a Saturday, arriving around Noon, and drove to Galveston (about 1.5 hours). We explored the island all afternoon and had a nice dinner, then left the car at the hotel (for free) during the cruise. We used cabs to/from the cruise terminal (very reasonable).

This worked well for us because we didn't feel "rushed" about getting around before or after the cruise.

Happy cruising everyone!

RCI (Rhapsody, Monarch, Nordic Prince); Carnival (Inspiration, Imagination); Princess (Dawn); Celebrity (Century); Big Red Boat

We leave on Rhapsody May 23 - this will be our 5th cruise on her (& #6 is booked for November) We love this ship and her crew - the most wonderful vacations I've had - like stopping the world & getting off for a whole week.
