Message in a bottle

I remember all the hoopla about a bottle off the back of a ship so I got a chuckle out of this article.

Sept. 9) - A Baltimore teen wrote a message, put it in a bottle and threw it into the ocean. Five years later, his missive turned up on the other side of the Atlantic. Daniel Knopp was 14-year-old high school student when he wrote the short note on June 21, 2004. He had been vacationing at the time with his parents aboard a cruise ship departing Freeport in the Bahamas, according to The Baltimore Sun.

"I never thought of it again," Knopp told the Sun. "I completely forgot about that day. I thought it would be unreal if it were ever to be found, but I figured it would be destroyed by the ocean environment."

Little did he know that the old wine bottle would survive the rough waves of the Atlantic and wash ashore 4,000 miles away in Cornwall, southwestern England, five years later.

I'm torn on this subject - while I think the idea of someone finding a message in a bottle is cool, the Great Pacific Garbage patch is a huge problem. If you google "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" Video you'll find a segment from Good Morning America that is eye opening to say the least.

Actually, here's the link -

And i'm not a "treehugger" per se', but I love enjoying the ocean and nature and it's troubling to watch something like that. I don't want to be apart of causing that.

I'm not trying to Flame anyone, like I said, I think finding or having someone find a message in a bottle would be cool, but.......

We need a biodegradable bottle.. Maybe you pay on the amount of years it takes for the bottle to dissolve. Like a couple of dollars a year and the money could go to an environmental agency. Want you bottle to last 20 years. Pay $40. To last 10 years pay $20.

I am against all litter but it must be really neat when someone answers that "message in a bottle".

Great, now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the week ... ;)

I read this post this morning. And the song has been going through my head all day. And since I only remember the chorus, it is been the same four words over and over again.

Who would have ever thought of doing this?

If you mean putting a note in a bottle and tossing it over board. The OP for one and several thousand other people a year all over the world between the ages of 10 and 99. To include the Navy and NOOA (for checking current drifts). ;)

I think it was joke.. see Trpinckl's job in the whale tale club..;)
