Price Increase

We got another e-mail from Silversea saying that there will be fare increases for some sailings starting March 18. The last time something similar happened was a month some ago, but the changes then were not too dramatic, who knows what will happen this time.

That is a good idea, but there are several ways to play the game. You can book now and get the cabin you like, if the fare comes down before final payment time, ask them to adjust to the new fare, or cancel and rebook and thereby keeping your original favourite cabin. Or simply cancel and get refund of your deposit (using a credit card), by one simple phone call. Any comment?

On several SS cruises we took (Alaska, Greece), cabin prices dropped after we booked and SS automatically adjusted our cabin price downward. We received written revised confirmations very promptly. Since you should always get the lowest cabin price, I wouldn't gamble waiting for a better sale. The only negative was that SS will not give you any additional perks they might offer at the last minute, e.g. $1,000 on-board credit, etc.

Don't have any idea as to cigarette prices aboard ship. I always bring enough for the cruise from home. My brand is very hard to find outside of the U.S.

Just FYI: $5.00/pack. Limited brands.

You were lucky. They don't always grant the lower price to existing reservations if the discount occurs at the very last minute. We ran into that situation last fall just prior to our cruise to Mexico. They lowered the price to Mexico only for new reservations. We could have cancelled and rebooked, but that would have involved the cost of new insurance and simply wasn't worth the hassle. After all is said and done, we want Silversea to be around for a very long time. If they lower prices at the very last minute to try to fill up ships, let's hope they succeed.
