What did you do in Rome and Naples? We will be on the Gem in November and trying to decide. Did you take train to Rome on your own? We are traveling with elderly folks and need to know the easy way to get from ship to train station.

Did you take a tour in Naples, we are considering hiring a tour guide and see the Amalfi coast and Pompei leasurely.

Your thoughts please.

For Rome we did it on our own. Once the port bus dropped us off, there was a sign to the station. We walked out, took a right, walked a little and it was on the left. After that we took the metro 2 stops right to the Colosseum. Everywhere else we hoofed it except to go from Piazza Navona to Piazza Popola. We walked down to the Spanish Steps, then to the Triton Fountain where we hopped back on the Metro to the Roma Termini. Make sure you have plenty of time to get through the station on the way back. It's big and takes a bit to get to the tracks. We did not go to the Vatican. It was VERY tiring, but we got to see everything we wanted too. We even got done an hour early amazing enough and were back on the ship by 5:30 when all aboard was 7:30.

We hired a private tour for Naples. There were 8 of us and we went to Sorrento, Positano, and Pompeii (where we also had a guide). It was EXCELLENT!

Same as above. What did you do in Rome? Ship tour or do it yourself? If you took the train - how far to the train station?

Thanks!

5-10 minute walk. You'll see tons of other people going there too. If the line is long, go to the right to the little newstand in the station, or the cigar place and buy your ticket there.
