Here is what I think of the Liberty of the Seas

If you are making the comparison to Mariner you will be very upset at your cruise. I have been on mariner 3 times, and took my fiance on her first last year. Liberty pales in comparison to Mariner. I was on the ship with YO, and i give it a slightly better mark, but the casino was not a major factor in my score. Miami is by far the most god forsaken port i have ever been to. between the bums begging for cash and the slow departure from the ship, i wanted to blow my brains out. my luggage tag said i would be called between 8-8:30am i finally got off the ship at 10am. The platinum diamond lounge closed at 8am the bridge broke down to get off the ship, after customs closed the line twice. As for comparisons to Mariner, the food was a 9 of 10 on Mariner, Liberty 7 of 10, and i am being generous on that. the balconys are larger on liberty, however the ship looks old becase they have not put one coat of varnish on the stateroom railings, unlike mariner, where that was weekly thing. the specialty restaraunts are good as always. If you need to go to the pursers desk on Liberty, expect a long line, 9 times out of 10 there was a minimum of 5 people in line at the pursers desk. The ship is a floating UN, and unfortunately it is full of the rudest people from all the nations. Brush up on you languages, because english is rarely if ever used. I wish everyone the best of luck on the ship, i know that i will not be going on Liberty of the seas ever again. My honeymoon is soon going to be on Freedom of the Seas, hopefully the port that a great ship like Mariner left out of will help change the experience.

This is exactly my feelings on how different people look differently at things.

Our Mariner experiences, even though we went on her about four times, were not as pleasant as yours. We went on her because we had friends on her and wanted to be with them, not the ship.

I agree with you about the upkeep on the ships, Mariner is second to none on this issue.

Our dining experince on Mariner was not good at all. Liberty was 5 star in comparison. NO I AM NOT SAYING LIBERTY IS 5 STAR DINING, just in comparison to Mariner.

I appreciate and respect your opinion. I don't agree or disagree, having never sailed Liberty. However, I'm responding to this thread because of an experience we had earlier this year. We took our first cruise on X, after many RCL cruises. We didn't like it. We posted a review on the X boards, stating both our likes and dislikes, and got positively trashed for any negative comments we had. Not everyone has an absolutely great, wonderful, rave-about experience on every cruise, and all experiences provides valuable insight to people considering a cruise on that ship.

Again, thanks for your posting.

Oh, ho ho ho...believe you me, if you say anything bad about the beloved RCI, you'll get slammed on these boards too. Why they're not out in full force on THIS thread, I dunno.

I'm loving the bad along with the good, although it IS making me a bit nervous. I'm not nervous for me, I'm nervous for my friend whom I've been trying to convince since 1992 to go on a cruise with me and I FINALLY did it. It didn't hurt that the interior cabins are going for just under $500. So I'm nervous that she'll be annoyed at me and will REALLY never cruise again. Oy!

We thought that was a bit strange as well, bare sun bleached wood.

Well as much as I slammed the casino and their food I didn't take any heat for it whatsoever. I am considering our next cruise and believe it or not I am looking at the Navigator of the Seas. Someone recommended taking a different class ship. Just because there were jerks on Liberty's casino doesn't mean they will be jerks on the Navigator. I am looking for reviews of that ship now.

Just remember the reviews for the Liberty are high too so be careful.

I know you said you didn't care about being rated but it's worth the little effort to follow up about it. You'd be surprised at what they might give you....

I'm going to give them one more chance too, but only for a specific reason...

On another note, how do you send a private message?

You can't send a private message on this website, but you can send to an email addy of mine if you like. Send to: yatzee_12@yahoo dot com. Replace dot com with .com as I don't want any robot spammers hitting it. Are you sending me some free dice? Awesome! :D

We went on Mariner last year (almost exactly a year ago). Funny thing is Abe was the CD on the Mariner at the time. I really enjoyed the Mariner. I thought the crew was a little more friendly on the Mariner but I don't have anything to really back this up. Just my/our opinion. I did like the fact that Captain Johnny was more visable than the captain of Liberty. Getting a little of track but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Side note to YO, I was burning a DVD of our videotape from the Liberty and was at the Powerwheels part. You were in several shots. Made me laugh.

On and ever upward! :)

we sailed liberty in 07 and navigator in 08, and didnt find too much difference in them, but we tried the brilliance this year which was a step down further

the casinos on both liberty and navigator were a bit soulless, but the casino on brilliance was wonderful, very friendly, with croupiers happy to teach and talk - including during play (which might annoy high rollers, but they'd probably go later in the evening than I did after first dinner sitting)

I enjoyed all 3, the liberty was very new, the navigator friendlier, the brilliance the friendliest of the lot, plus, the food was the best of the 3

if we get the chance to sail a radiance class ship again we will

Well, I have to agree with the reviewer about the casino.

The two ships I have been on, Radiance and Freedom, I found the casino dealers to be both slow and generally less than competent. Also, at craps, the "single odds" they offer most of the time is absurd -- any land-based casino will offer at least double odds and many offer more.

While I enjoy cruising, I have basically decided that gambling isn't part of the cruise experience for me. When I want to gamble, I'll go to Vegas. I'll still cruise, and I'll enjoy it. I loved both ships, particularly Radiance. But I won't gamble.

Yeah it was a major dissapointment to be impressed for only ONE night of the cruise. Some dishes were bad enough that I went through two and maybe one night three entrees to find something I can actually eat.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Yo Eleven: I had to come on this board to read your thoughts of the cruise. I did go on one RCCL cruise. The food was pretty bad and the service was worse. Did you go to the 22 hour resturant? Sometimes it became a 20 hour resturant. They closed it for cleaning. Very inconvientant when you come out of the Casino after closing it.

It was on Voyager of the Seas. I had another bad experience on the NCL Dawn. My last Carnival cruise wasn't the best either. But guess what? My next three cruises is on Carnival.

Hey Yo! Saw the mention on the casino thread and have just spent an interesting two hours reading through this thread.

The more I cruise and the more I read reviews, the more I come to believe that we are simply looking at a moving target. Of the four cruises that DW and I have taken since 2004, two have been on RCCL. We have another cruise booked for December, with a competitor. Two of the cruises were absolutely wonderful (give them a 10, teacher) and two far less enjoyable.

In planning our next cruise, we sat down and tried to analyze why. Clearly it is NOT the cruise line. One on RCCL was wonderful, the other one not! Food on one was fabulous (we wish we could take Jacqueline our waitress with us everywhere), the other was awful (icluding MDR entrees repeatedly being brought out cold). Casino experience followed the same pattern Good on some, bad on others. Even the basic condition of the two ships were at variance with each other.

Perhaps we are talking coincidence, but the only correlation we could see was the size of the ships: both of the cruises we loved were on SMALLER ships! For RCCL, Splendour vs. Navigator, Splendour wins hands down! Both of these two cruises were in the ame general area: Eastern Med at the same time of year. We did not make any judgments based on things beyond the cruise lines' control: the better cruise had MISERABLE weather which limited our port excursion possibilities. Can't blame RCCL for that.

Based on this, our upcoming cruise will be on a smaller ship (approximately 2000 pax).

Yet, reading through this long thread and seeing people's comments on various RCCL ships, it seems that even this is not really a defining factor.

Mayve it is always just the luck of the draw.

You know AndyTheK our first cruise was on the Clebrity Zenith. It was one of the best cruises we ever had. However the Carnival Valor was also one of the best cruises we ever had, and it's a huge ship. Like you said I have never been on a bad cruise, only a dissappointing one. Also I think you are corrrect in your conclusion it's random. The Jewel OS, was a wonderful cruise with mediocre food (at best). I had thought that Celebrity was the epitome of cruising for foodies (high end lines excepted) till I cruised on the Millenium. Personally I think it's a combination of the Ship's management, crew and passengers that make a cruise what it is.

Nice POST BTW

No, but I didn't gain anything either:rolleyes:

Oh, and that's without excercising...

Hey I actually lost weight one day. I had lunch in St. Martin at Maho Beach. I ate ribs and chicken which was actually very tasty. When we got back to the ship I started feeling weird and the room was spinning around. I had two choices.

Either stay on the balcony and pray that my tummy would feel better.

Or head inside the room pull an Exorcism and rid the demons that were inside of me.

After about 5 minutes of praying, the demons won as they were partying too hard and ran inside and had the Exorcism. I cannot tell you how much better I felt. I even ate a lot for dinner that night. I don't know what the deal was with the ribs and chicken but man they really messed me up.

It's kinda funny, I never want to mention my Mariner cruise because I thought it sucked but everyone seems to like that ship. When I went I thought the cruise director and staff were terrible (except 1 really fat guy) He moved more and had more spirit than the rest combined.

My favourite cruise was Voyager - again I absolutely loved the CD. I think that the enjoyment of the cruise is definitely based on the management on the ship.

We very much enjoyed our Liberty cruise, but I think some of the employees were out of sorts, I had to cut off my cabin attendant when she started talking about her wages and stuff. This is not something I want to know while I'm trying to relax on a vacation (last vacation was 14 months ago). I cut her off by telling her that the guys where I work are only working every other week. And yes we did book this trip because of the price. I may have been rude once myself on the island and apologize if anyone was offended.

I was at the food station about 1:30pm Dragon's point and the line was not moving, all I wanted were ribs and they were at the end of the line. The line seemed to be stalled at the hamburger station. I go fed up and walked straight up to the ribs, put some on my plate and left. Line still didn't move. This is one area where I think they need to so something like the windjammer and have multiple stations instead of one very long line.

Other than that most of the employees we dealt with were very friendly. And the backstage tour was the best we've seen so far. They didn't rush through it like on our Mariner cruise.

There were alot of non-English speaking on this cruise, but this never bothers me. I did asked alot in other languages if I spoke something else, but alas I don't. Heck, even at the Toronto Airport, I had an Indian guy come up to me to find out where the luggage carrousel for the Dubai flight was (all in Indian). I must look approachable or something. Sad part is I figured out what he wanted and sent him on his way. Maybe I'm too nice.

Just a comment about the shows.... we have heard and discussed the show "In The Air Flying Show" with many people... so many people do not understand/like this show... we cruise Saturday and can't wait to see this show.... for the 4th time, we love it! Especially the music! Guess that is one good thing... there are a variety of venues and shows. We were so afraid it would be gone before we got to see/listen "one more time" :D Don't know if the OP liked or disliked... just a comment :) Oh... yes, we love the "Cirque" shows also

This is interesting you mention Dragon's point. The only bad food there was the hamburgers. How they can live with themselves serving those disgusting patties beats me? The other stuff was pretty good. Great selection of fruit. But, unfortunately there were a lot of PIGS there eating. And I mean dirty pigs. I am all for eating as much as you like but these particular pigs would load up their plates as they were feeding 6 people and only end up eating not even half of what they took. The rest sits there until either the flies get to it or one of the staff members picks it up and throws it in the trash after the lazy pigs leave it there.

Where did Royal Carribbean find these people and why did they have to be on our cruise?

I know what you mean. Same thing in the Windjammer. I always just take a normal amount - it's good to teach the kids that too when they're with us. I always figure if I need more than I can go back, but usually my eyes are bigger than my stomach so I adjust accordingly.

I did find out that all the food leftover on the island is then given to the locals. (The food that has been made, not the stuff that was never opened). Also, we had all the construction workers eating at our end. Some very .... hardworking people...and oddly enough they had manners - go figure :D

This show was awesome. I have great respect for someone that can just hold on to a hola-hoop without a safety harness 10-15 feet in the air. Their arms must be like steel. And they make it look easy. One of the dancers will be doing a similiar show on our Independence cruise - he actually embarks at the beginning of our cruise. I can't wait to see the show on Independence in April.

We rarely go to the shows, except for the ice shows.....love them! If the "In the Air Flying Show" is on the Liberty at the end of October, we're going to go see it. Thanks!
