Cruise Inc.

Did anyone watch Cruise Inc. last night on CNBC? It was an "insider" look at the NCL Pearl. Pretty interesting. They had the president on speaking about foreign country registration, pulling ships out of HI because of lost money. What it takes to turn a profit and various other things concerning the money in the industry as a whole.

This show has been on before. Yes, it is interesting in that how much money it takes to turn a profit on each sailing. Explains a lot why they want us to buy the pictures/drinks/spa services/shore excursions..........yada yada yada!

I still love to cruise, even though they have their hands in my pocket!

I can't stay in Dallas for as cheap as I can take a cruise, including the $12/day and the tips, etc. Give me a cruise any day!:)

I totally agree Ms belp. Same where I live on Vancouver Island. In fact, I'm wondering why we're here when we could be cruising and saving money!! lol

The show was an eyeopener for sure and quite interesting.

This is the first time I've seen it. Do they ever do other ships?

Cruising is by far the best bang for your vacation buck IMHO. I don't begrudge any company for trying to make money.

Just thought it was interesting.

(btw looong time lurker, 1st time poster =)

We also were very interested to watch this show...but I have a question for anyone that's actually sailed on this ship: Many, many of the scenes made the common-areas look SUPER CROWDED. Was this just weird camera angles, or is the Pearl a "sardine can"? I've never, ever perceived such mobs on any ship I've sailed and am really curious to hear something about it first-hand. Thanks in advance.

NCL ships actually have less public space when you subtract out all the speciality restaurants which are only used a few hours a day (if you pay the fees).

We were actually ON this sailing! I never felt that the ship was crowded! It might be that people wanted to be on camera?! Not sure about that...We love the Pearl. Love the Star. Love the Jade. Tony Lockett (the British food and bev. director who spoke a few times) has become a family friend after many sailings! Tony is one of the reasons we come back to NCL (and many other employees we keep in touch with). For a large cruise line, we have found NCL to be amazingly personal....but I do follow through when I meet people...just in general, in life!:o I think the show was brutally honest in some ways. I also was not impressed with some of the people they chose to interview:rolleyes:. We just had a wonderful time...Not one complaint from us!

Set up a TV camera anywhere and see how crowded it gets in a very short time

Excellent point (also from you too, flattop)! I totally never thought of that and it makes perfect sense. I believe you, 4 cruisers, that the normal conditions weren't like that. Thanks to both of you for clueing me in!

That is my sentiment exactly. That is also the reason we keep coming back again and again. We started following the SUN(haha) from Alaska and now to the Baltics and it's because we love the crew.

We never found that on other cruise lines and I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's this open attitude NCL has that directed them to do the show while other lines refused. Possibly?
