Clearing Customs in St. Thomas

We will be sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to San Juan, and then to St. Thomas without visiting a foreign port in between. Will we have to clear customs at either stop, or will we be exempt having just sailed from one american port to another?

We just got off the Mariner and all we had to do was parade through the dining room, show our passport to the officials there, they marked our seapass and we could get off the ship. No waiting around, piece of cake!

If you are a non U.S. citizen your passport may be held by the ship. If that happens usually non U.S. passengers will go to a different room to be processed and the ship will have your passports on hand at that time. The nature of the beast!:)
