HAULNTA Posted October 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Last time I was in Barbados I went to "Blue Monkey Beach", but I read that it is now closed. What is the real name of the beach I was at? and is there a bar open there now?
Mathew Parryman Posted October 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Hi HAULNTA What was the beach like? Is it suitable for a family I would appreciate in any information you could provide.
ming Posted October 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2009 Sorry, but there is no Blue Monkey beach per se, the beach is actually Paynes Bay, a little south of Holetown. The "Blue Monkey" revamped the old Bombas shack and paid taxi drivers $1 per head to bring you to "The Blue Monkey Beach". Are you getting the picture? I can tell you that the beach is excellent, but whether the Blue Monkey restaurant is still open (I hope it isn't), I cannot. I avoid the West coast.
NCSunshine Posted October 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2009 The Blue Monkey Bar is no longer open. The Beach is Payne's Bay. The best place to be dropped off is the public beach access just north of the new Sands Condo building.. Walk out to the beach and turn left to walk to Payne's Bay. There are still chair and umbrella vendors but uncertain if there is anyone selling drinks etc. Have the cab driver collect you from the same spot. There is a public shower (hopefully) right there as you come off the beach.

Abberboo Posted March 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Is this really true, the Blue Monkey is closed? I loved visiting there. I am going in April for a week. If Blue Monkey is gone, what is there now, nothing just beach?
Aplmac Posted March 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 8, 2010 "Why do you avoid the West Coast?" TRAFFIC! That wasn't the answer I was expecting.. :D I woulda more thought it was... beach vendors -or maybe simply too sweltering hot. Good thing it's got the turtles because if it didn't.. South coast beaches like Dover and Accra/Rockley ..would be just inundated! .
Johnthed0g Posted March 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 8, 2010 I avoid the South coast, if I wanted to go to Benidorm I would go to Spain for a third of the cost!!
NCSunshine Posted March 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Thats funny John.. I had to google the town you mentioned... and I've to say it's more West Coast Barbados than South. At least on the south there are beaches with access and not hotels or apartments being built right up to the waters edge with no beach access to speak of.. sooo.. hate to disagree.. but.. thus is life.. Aplmac Posted March 12, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2010 My wife works in a shop that sees a lot of tourist traffic in and out. Almost exclusively-tourist traffic in and out. As she chats with visitors, she's discovered that --far and away-- their overall preference is for Barbados' SOUTH Coast. They all say that the West coast is hot and stuffy. Just an observation. _________________________________ N.B. These visitors she chats with are not cruise-ship ppl they are long-stay visitors, in hotels. People who have done both coasts within the time frame of their stay on the island.
