ddy123 Posted October 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2009 Which Holiday Inn would you stay at during Mardi Gras in Galveston? It will be me, my husband and our two girls ages 10 and 13. We won't have a car so we'd like to be able to walk to the festivities if possible. But if one is more desirable than the other we could always take a cab. We are looking at the one 'On the Beach" and the Sunspree. I am guessing the the Express is located the farthest way from the tourist area. Thanks! As in earlier thread assuming the same parade routes and schedules as last year and same days you will be in Galveston...... the Sunspree at about 21st and Seawall. There is a new express at about 79th. It is the farthest. The parades will definitly be downtown and can be reached by cab. Hopefully they will also start on Seawall again, continue on 25th and windup Downtown again. Two parades that evening and night. Each with same route You will be on Seawall and see start and also be able to walk to 25th. Downtown is at least 30 blocks away. I will try to find schedules All subject to change. ddy123 Posted October 9, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted October 9, 2009 That's what I thought but wanted to make sure I didn't make a mistake.:) I'm so excited about going to Galveston...we've never been before. I did not even realize it was Mardi Gras when we booked the cruise so this is such a great bonus!

Sunday there is Childrens parade and Barkus and Meow parade (dogs and cats). You could see these and still have time to go to ship.:D

Also consider Moody Gardens for a fun time Saturday during day see web www.moodygardens.com Hotel is there also on the bayfront. A wonderful place. There are also Galveston Historical Foundation Properties to visit. Historical Homes, Tall Ship Elissa, Maritime Museum, Films on Pirate Jean Lafitte and the 1900 Storm. The Strand area! With Mardi Gras activities. And of course the beach on the Gulf of Mexico in front of hotel.
