Port side for southbound cruise?

Right? I'm assuming aft is first choice but isn't looking likely based on ship configuration and what's available for our category.

 

I know there's a northbound thread going on but I don't want to miss the obvious when I book this week.

 

Ports are: Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, then the usual Juneau, Skagway & Ketchikan. It's on Princess, if that matters, Diamond Princess if that matters.

IF you are only interested in viewing Glacier Bay, from your balcony, then a port side is superior for having the "extended stops" and commentary. Otherwise, it makes little difference. Ships do NOT sail coastal, so if your thinking is "land" viewing" going south, probably not, unless you are going to be ok with extremly distant views, through binoculars. Inside passage will have delightful viewing on both sides. Hubbard glacier views are forward. IF you want the most viewing, then get out on deck and "follow" the views by moving. If you "park" yourself somewhere, it is a small portion of the overall available viewing.

My personal choice would be port side for a southbound cruise, there is just more potential of scenery on that side. On your glaicer day you will likely want to be out on one of the decks to take it all in. You will love the Diamond, it is one of our favourties.:)
