gomexico Posted October 20, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2009 Christmas Eve is very much a family night in Mexico - called "Noche Buena" and not many people leave home. However, Acapulco IS a resort town and though the big influx of national tourists won't begin until the day-after Christmas, there will be lots of people in town. If you plan to eat dinner I suggest you do that early - in the late-afternoon, because the selection of restaurants that'll bel open for business will be greater. Also, it's typical for there to be some festivities and a Christmas market in Plaza Alvarez (the "Zocalo") and along the Malecon . . . both within a 5-10 minute walk of where you'll leave the cruise passenger terminal. If you are a Roman Catholic and want to attend a Christmas Eve Mass, you'll be able to do that in the catedral situated at Plaza Alvarez (churches of other faiths can be a bit harder to locate, if you're not familiar with ACA). Christmas Day and the 26th will find many (Mexican) tourists heading to the beach resorts - particularly on the 26th which is a Saturday and the coastal cities can get congested and festive in the days leading-up to the New Year celebration.
