cascole Posted October 20, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 20, 2009 That's bizzare......they would have been pretty close to Ensenada......... I would have thought so too... I'm sure there's more to it than that. Of course, if they leave tonight, they can still make Ensenada in about 4 hours.

mathgeek1978 Posted October 21, 2009 #13 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Just spoke with someone onboard - medical emergency is all that they knew... In the event of a medical emergency don't they usually send a helicopter to airlift the patient to a hospital? Wouldn't that be a lot faster? Just curious... Wouldn't that be a lot faster? Just curious... The Elation doesn't have a helicopter pad. I don't think any Carnival ships do. If they're too far out, the Coast Guard may come and help with a Cutter...but mainly they just steam full speed to the nearest harbor. See the ship all lit up? no spot to land the chopper. Even if the lights were gone, there's no spot big enough.

lappy22 Posted October 21, 2009 #18 Share Posted October 21, 2009 They were in port for a long while today/tonight. I'm sure Carnival lost a bit of revenue of not having the casino and shops open. And don't forget that the guests had to pay sales tax on all bar purchases as well. I guess it was good for California.
tanstaafl_2001 Posted October 21, 2009 #19 Share Posted October 21, 2009 The Coast Guard helicopters don't need to land on the ship. They will just hover over the top deck and drop a basket down. We saw this on our last cruise on the Miracle. The Elation doesn't have a helicopter pad. I don't think any Carnival ships do. cascole Posted October 21, 2009 #20 Share Posted October 21, 2009 I spoke to my friend onboard around 9:30 last night & at that time they were just awaiting clearance from Homeland security & the coast guard to depart... no real info on what the scoop was.
