Le Diamant or Prince Albert II

Lirio

Recommended Posts

Hi fellows this is my first thread.

I am from Brazil and I like to cruise.

This time I am considering a cruise to Antarctica and I was offered Le Diamand and Price Albert II.

Which of them do you recommend and why?

My best wishes,

Lirio

Sorry, I have not sailed with either of these ships but as you might not be familiar with all possibilities of this board, I like to suggest that you ask for further information on the Antarctica and cruise lines forums.

Antarctica: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=475

Other cruise lines: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=218

Silversea: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=183

You might also try a search for former threads. Here are two of the results:

Good luck and have a great cruise.

I have been on PAII (to the Artic) and if I was going to Antarctica I would choose Minerva over PAII. I know you didn't ask about Minerva. But are they an option? It is a 400 passenger ship but they only take a max of 199 to Antarctica. I think if you are from Brazil you can book through Abercrombie & Kent (out of the US). Swan Hellinic owns Minerva (or has a long term Lease). Abercrombie & Kent provides the lecturers. If you are in the US you have to book through A&K and if in Europe have to book through Swan. Other countries are not as clear.

While the PAII was good, Minerva was exceptional. It has a wrap around Verandah and small gym is at the top of the ship with views. On PAII there was very little outdoor space. Minerva has a band that played at night and also outside at lunch time, and they were fun. Note that the wait staff on PAII was outstanding, but they are new to expedition cruising. There were two crew members on Minerva in February that we saw again in July on PAII. While we can recommend PAII if I had a choice I would go on Minerva. Just to throw another option out there.

Also, does Le Diamond have an ice hardened hull? I have never seen it come up on the Antarctica board.
