scubagirl08 Posted November 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2009 Has anyone ever booked adjoining balcony cabins with their family? We booked adjoining balcony cabins on the Pearl with our in-laws, and we are wondering if the partition between the balconies can be opened up so we can share our balcony space. blindrid Posted November 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2009 Have not been on Pearl but have been on sister ship and they opened. I think almost all ships' balconies open up but I'm sure there are a few exceptions.
mj1010 Posted November 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2009 I don't know about the Pearl but on the Gem they opened our balcony doors every day while we were in port.
bakerintn Posted November 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2009 The whole partition does not open up. There is a "door" that opens so that you can pass between the balconies, and when open, the partition looks liking having an open door. Check with your cabin steward(s) to have them unlocked /opened. benreecemom Posted November 3, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 3, 2009 If you book on the Sky they don't open. We did not have a door either to be opened. I think you will enjoy the adjoining cabins.

Mississippi1 Posted November 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2009 What about the Spirit? Will we be able to open the balcony doors on her? Oh, and just wondering here, are they able to be opened while at sea, or only on port days?
tripgrl Posted November 3, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2009 We were not able to have the partition between our balconies opened this summer on the Gem. I'm not clear on why it couldn't be opened but the steward told me no. Also, I was surprised to find out that once the door was opened between the two rooms, we couldn't close it again. Consequently, it was as if we were all in one room, with the convenience of two bathrooms.
Ask4Jay Posted November 5, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2009 Below is a picture of our partition on the Gem. As you can see, there is no door handle. The cabin attendant has a key to unlock it. There seem to be various interpretations by different attendants as to when the doors can be opened (hearsay). We have never asked, since we travel by ourselves. I would like to ask a "clarifying question" - we have booked on the Gem- for a 21 day transatlantic cruise- adjoining balcony cabins with good friends. But not good enough that we don't want privacy when dressing and sleeping- did I understand you correctly that should we ask for the door to be open- it can not be shut in the evening or other times? rlb
tripgrl Posted November 9, 2009 #12 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Yes, that was our experience. The connecting door was locked when we boarded and when I asked to have the door opened I assumed that we would be able to open and close it, as you would in a hotel room. Once the door was opened it was like a swinging door so it was secured in an open position.
paulgduck Posted November 9, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Mississippi1 The adjoining balconies on the Spirit do not open, but the door between the rooms do of course. Just ask your cabin steward when you first get on to have them open them.
TYTY Posted November 9, 2009 #14 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Do the balcony doors open on the Pride of America?
3mmm Posted November 9, 2009 #15 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Sorry, but I am still confused. Are we talking about the inside connecting doors or the balcony door that has to be secured in an open position. I certainly hope that the inside door can be closed at times. Otherwise we might as well sleep in the living room of the adjacent suite. I hope we are talking about the balcony doors only. We are in a connecting AB-AF on the Pearl planning to put the five kids in the two bedrooms of the suite, us in the AF mini-suite and leaving the living room free. gdpups Posted November 10, 2009 #16 Share Posted November 10, 2009 I am traveling with 7 of my girlfriend in January on the Pearl ( 4 balcony cabins) and I've been assured by both NCL and my travel agent, who is on the Pearl this week, that the balcony partitions (sp) do open. It's very important to us as we love to have happy hour together on our balconies!

tripgrl Posted November 10, 2009 #18 Share Posted November 10, 2009 3mmm - The interior door connecting our two balcony cabins could not be opened and closed once it was unlocked. There was not a latch on the door, only a deadbolt that had to be locked and unlocked by the steward.
bookshackfamily Posted November 10, 2009 #19 Share Posted November 10, 2009 We are sailing on the sky and have booked adjoining balcony cabins. My PCC said that we can have the room steward remove the partition if it isnt already done when we get there.
