dennbr9 Posted November 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2009 Can you get a Cocktail on Board ship while in Galveston? Have mixed reports that only Beer and Wine available until you hit International Waters due to Tax laws? Any insights on this issue?? Galveston Cruiser Posted November 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2009 I don't know where this rumor started, but all bars are open on the ships. It is only the casino that remains closed until in international waters.
Plant Posted November 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2009 On our last cruise from Galveston (admittedly, a while ago :)!) the bars were open, but there were certain brands of liquor that remained locked up until we left Texas. The bartender said it had something to do with the brands not being sold in Texas, so the state couldn't collect taxes.
CGBCruiser Posted November 9, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I know there are some imported liquers and other types of alcohol that are not sold in the US. You can only purchase them onboard the cruise ships while at sea. I'm sure it works the same when purchasing alcoholic drinks onboard. Don't worry...there's plenty of drinks onboard and you won't miss anything that might not be available until you sail! That's one of their main sources of income and they make everything available to you that they possibly can!! ;)
Aprils22 Posted November 10, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2009 Well I know that last year when I was sailing on Celebrity that when I had a drink before we left port that the cost was a bit higher---there was an additonal tax on the bill--- I'll guess I'll find out in Jan whats up--- Cheers and enjoy April
