vlpronj Posted November 13, 2009 #76 Share Posted November 13, 2009 mine is on deck 11 . <SNIP>. Mine is near the spa area and atrium and under the water flume deck. My M-I-L is traveling with us, and has an interior room on deck 11; I'll try to get some pix, and any comments. Also, I was quite glad to see the webcam pix showing the Dream; it's my first time departing from NYC, and it looks like the terminal won't be completely packed (Dream was the only ship visible in the webcam). jebl Posted November 13, 2009 #77 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Regarding the questions about the Cove Balcony. I had one on the 10-15 sailing. I was very nice. Almost like sitting on a balcony with a picture window. It is the same size as a regular balcony with two hi back chairs and a table. The dividers between balconies becomes the storm door in case of rough seas. If you hit rough seas you wouldn't want to go out there. Our storm door was closed for two days when we hit 70 mph winds and 40 ft swells. We still had a large picture window to let light in and for us to watch the angry sea. Considering the price I definitely would take one again. I spoke to folks who had balconies on the upper decks and they didn't want to use theirs in the rough weather either. Sailaway Girl Posted November 13, 2009 #78 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Good morning. Booked air, made final payment now it's hotel time. Coming in a day early just in case the weather causes problems. Anyone coming in early and booking a hotel? Any suggestions? Coming in to Miami and will probably rent a car so Fort Lauderdale is okay too. Rene

Rene Are you meaning you are flying into Miami for the cruise out of Port Canaveral? That is quite a bit of distance to come from. Roughly 3-4 hours from Miami to Port Canaveral. My sister lives in Homestead, GPS puts her about 3 hours 55 minutes from Port Canaveral as they are driving up to meet us all there. Generally recommended airport would be Orlando, Melbourne. *Mach* Posted November 13, 2009 #81 Share Posted November 13, 2009 I'm reporting in from the cruise terminal. We got here about 9:45 after a 1:20 minute ride from Newark. The ship looks beautiful and we've got a great view of the Intrepid docked directly across from us. We've written down all the questions and I'll do my best to get pictures and answers. We'll be boarding soon as the overnighters cleared the ship quickly. I can't wait to get on board an start exploring!!! :D

Georgiagolfer Posted November 13, 2009 #85 Share Posted November 13, 2009 We spent 16 days on that thing after coming from Italy and ultimately winding up in New York. It was actually our first cruise and we had a great time. Being that I don't really have any frame of reference, it's difficult to compare it to any other ship, but I can say that there were many good (and a few not-so-good) things about it. Just quickly... I suppose that's all. We just got back to California a few hours ago and are dead-tired from travelling, and after being on the ship for so long my brain is still telling me that I had better keep my balance when I stand up... I also feel like the room on the ship was my real home after being there for almost 3 weeks, and that I'll be returning soon, which, I really would like to someday (even with the few negative comments I had). I hope someone finds this review helpful. Sorry for the length of it. lazarus79, thanks for the review and welcome to cruise critic.
Georgiagolfer Posted November 13, 2009 #86 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Host Mach, if possible, please find out if an enternainer "Papa T" is on Dream. He transferred from Liberty in November and was hoping to be assigned to the Dream. thanks
PROCRUISE Posted November 13, 2009 #87 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Hi everyone, On Thursday, Carnival will finally christen it's brand-new Carnival Dream in New York City, and I'll be there, reporting live on the event in Cruise Critic News. I'll also be sailing on Friday's two-night preview cruise -- along with Host Mach and 100+ other Cruise Critic members! -- and would be glad to answer your questions about the 130,000-ton, 3,652-passenger ship, the line's largest ever. A few questions I've already jotted down for myself: * What's the 11,250-square-foot adults-only Serenity area, covering two decks, like? * How does the indoor/outdoor dance club work? * What's the deal with the 36 "FunHub" kiosks -- easy/useful? * Is the new steakhouse as good as the Supper Clubs of ships past? * Will anyone use the corkscrew waterslide in November, in New York (especially if we DO get a nor'easter up this way?!) I will answer as many questions as I can (though I won't be able to check out specific cabins -- sorry) and post insights and photos -- and I know Host Mach will be doing so as well. Can't wait! Melissa Thanks for all the inside scoop. If there are any problems get them ironed out before we board in Port Canaveral on December 3rd. We'll have the ship pretty much covered: two of our friends are in a regular balcony, two other friends are in an inside cabin, and we're trying out a cove balcony!!! Enjoy yourself. Georgiagolfer Posted November 13, 2009 #91 Share Posted November 13, 2009 According to pictures posted by carncovecruiser, these look larger than the standard OV rooms. 11204 is under the gym, so wondering if there could be a noise issue early in the mornings or are both OK to book? I am in 11204, but 11203 is available if I need to move.

jandjfun Posted November 13, 2009 #93 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Hi, I posted this question yesterday, but I can't find it now. I am wondering how the program(time to play, or wanna play) that partners Carnival with St. Judes Hospital will work. Where will the money come from? Also, does this program replace the walk for the cure? Or is it in addition to the walk for the cure?
*Mach* Posted November 13, 2009 #94 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Yipee!! Looking forward to your first thoughts and impressions of the Dream Host Mach!! I love the way you "see" things. The best part is that I don't even have to tell you to have a good time because I know you WILL, and then you'll come back here and inform us all! :) THANKS! I am thrilled to be able to answer your question. The Carnival Dream is a new level of ship, not a new class... a new LEVEL of ship for Carnival. She is quite stunning with surprises everywhere but more subtle than Carnival ship that preceded her. I see much of the Splendor here. The same quiet Mediterranean influence that drew me to the Lido Deck area is sprinkled throughout the Carnival Dream. There is no theme here, there is little of the hard Vegas glitz that many people are driven away from. There ooohs and ahhhs everywhere. As always, the art blends into the decor of the ship but, given a chance, stands out stridently. When you get on board run about madly taking in the grand scheme then slow down, walk, look and enjoy the detail. The ship flows very naturally. There are none of the fits and starts of the Conquest Class but a wonderful blend from public place to public place. Are there things that make you go 'hummmmm...' Yep, but they're not things that make you go 'HUH???' I'll revisit those later and explain in more detail. Bottom line, this ship is beautiful. Our Meet & Mingle was fantastic. We had better than 100 Cruise Critic folks there. Carolyn Spencer Brown and Melissa Paloti joined us and I'm sure we'll see some posts from them soon. More to come!!! :D

melissa@cruisecritic Posted November 13, 2009 Author #99 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Hi Stephanie, the promenade does go all the way round -- so you will see some deck when you look straight down. I'm on Deck 9, pretty far aft, and I literally just now took a peek over the side -- and it does indeed stick out and it looks the same forward. Sorry I am not delivering the news you'd rather hear! Think of it this way; beyond the deck there's PLENTY of ocean :D Camp Carnival info to come -- though I have already walked through Circle C, the preteen area, and I have to say that I would like to hang out there and think your almost 13 year old will love it. What I am really trying to figure out, we have a balcony on deck 10.. about 8-10 cabins from the bow.. will we look down at the water OR is the path still sticking out so far?? I was hoping it would cut back in towards the front Camp Carnival.. I will have a 6, 8 and 11 y/o AND an almost 13 y/o in Circle C (?) THANKS! *Mach* Posted November 13, 2009 #100 Share Posted November 13, 2009 Folks are still boarding and I'm using my phone as a modem so, while connect minutes are free, I thought I'd put up a few pictures... A New York Dream... The Casino... Looking up from the rail on the Panorama Deck just forwar of the Ocean Plaza. Yep... the folks on the Upper Deck will probably have gawkers but from the Empress Deck up there really are no issues... The Atrium is an execise in restraint. Hues of gold and copper blend gracefully in this soaring space... The Lobby Bar and the bandstand above it...
