other hotels besides Miami??

We will be driving to Florida precruise so we would not have to stay in Miami. Can anyone recommend a hotel or area close to Miami that might have cheaper hotel rates?

The hotels near the airport will be cheaper than those by the port. There are some that have free shuttles to the Port of MIA. There is a hotel right near the port, Holday Inn Express on Biscayne Blvd which is worthy of checking in to because of its location.

beach gramma, you need to be very careful where you stay outside Miami. Hotels off I-95 in Miami are not a good choice. What is your budget?

Yes, I recommend Coral Gables. It is a lovely area. It is not far. For some reason the hotels are less expensive in this area.
