Soda Card Question

On our honeymoon my wife and I got the soda cards. On our past cruise we decided not to get them. On the last night of our cruise, however, my wife decided she wanted a Shirley Temple (non-alcholic drink) and the drink waiter asked if we had the soda card.

Are the soda cards good on just soda, or can they be used to obtain other non-alcoholic drinks? A Shirley Temple is pretty much just soda with a little cherry flavoring, so maybe they include it as a soda? Or maybe it was a freak incident?

Anyone have any luck getting drinks besides straight soda with the soda cards?

This is all the NCL site has,

I guess it's up to who is serving you, it would be nice if you could get a n/a blended drink

Thanks! My wife was served in a tall, thin frosted glass with the name and picture of the ship on. Since getting back from our cruise I noticed there are a few listed on ebay as 'souvenirs'. Are they really souvenir glasses, like the tall plastic ones you see everywhere the first day?
