Curt Jerome Wild Posted November 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2009 What are you talking about exactly? Cut off jeans on a guy? Cut off short shorts on a girl? What exactly? And where are you hearing this? I wear my cut off shorts all the time in Vegas - but then they are khakis and such that I've cut off into shorts...
yogi2929 Posted November 17, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Maybe in the pools?
Curt Jerome Wild Posted November 17, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Maybe in the pools? There are some of the Golf Courses/Clubs that don't allow cut-offs, but I can't think of a hotel that doesn't allow it. Sue's Mom - what hotel are you wondering about? Sue's Mom Posted November 17, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted November 17, 2009 This was a statement that was given to one in our party by a friend of hers who said she had been to LV and this is what she had found. I assume that they mean Capri pants (I think that this is what they are called in the US) - pants which reach down to mid-calf(ish). I am assuming that this person meant pants for women but this came to me third-hand.
yogi2929 Posted November 17, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2009 In the States 'cut-offs' usually refer to cut-off jeans with the sloppy strings hanging from the cuts. I've always worn capris and long shorts to Vegas. A very few restuarants have dress codes like coats and ties for men. This is an extreme example of a cut-off-
Curt Jerome Wild Posted November 17, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Well, it sounds like the info was twisted somewhere between firsthand, secondhand, to thirdhand!:D You will see Capris all over the place (especially on women, but even on some of the European men). You will see surfer style board shorts on all of the American guys. Like I said, I wear cut off khaki's or cargo pants (board short length to my knees) all the time. They do have dress codes for a few of the nightclubs and restaurants - but you'd know beforehand that you are dressing up for that. But in general, walking around the hotels, hanging out at the pools, walking around the strip - if it's hot, then shorts of all lengths are everywhere! So, I don't think that you have anything to worry about.
Curt Jerome Wild Posted November 17, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2009 This is an extreme example of a cut-off- But you KNOW that you're going to see that walking down the strip!;) There are miniskirts shorter than that aplenty, on the girls waiting in line to get into the nightclubs! More girls in Vegas... Sue's Mom Posted November 17, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Wow, I really wish that I/we were young and shapely enough to were cut-off jeans like that. :( The women in our crowd just call them "wide belts". Thank you all for your help, I knew I could rely on CCers.
DaveOKC Posted November 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 17, 2009 In Vegas it seems anything is possible in clothing. It seems like every trip the skirts get shorter and the tops get lower cuts! Thats one reason we go there so often!! DaveOKC
Cruisin' Chick Posted November 17, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Those pics look like what you can see on some Hollywood streets at night. Anyway, I would disregard that info. It could be some Vegas shows or fancier restaurants have a dress code, akin to formal night on cruiseships. You can inquire of the hotel concierge as to what to where at a specific locale. I wouldn't worry about being in casinos or the hotel public areas in capris (pants that stop mid-calf) or shorts, unless you have a problem with air conditioning (in the hotels, it will be blasting). And if you're there on the weekend, you'll see plenty of the polyester crowd. So having bad taste won't be a problem either.

JennyandJoeS Posted November 17, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 17, 2009 I've lived here in Las Vegas for the last 15 years, and there is no dress code, except for the fancier nighttime places. You can't imagine what goes here. You could wear capri's, or shorts just about 24 hours a day, anywhere on the Strip. But right now, it's a little coolish for that. It is getting down into the 30's at night.

We are/were due to fly out tomorrow at 11:55am, therefore leaving the house at 8am. We have only just found out that we are not with Delta at all and that we should be with either United or US Airways. I do wonder when the TA planned to give us this information. However, the TA cannot find the appropriate number that would enable us to do online check-in. So, at this precise moment, we do not know whether we are going or not. So I refuse to pack my suitcase until I do know. Edited to say that the only airlines that fly from Manchester UK to New York (JFK or Newark) are Delta and Continental. OMG it just gets worse. Since then, hubby has me make the arrangements.
