Star vs. Pearl for Kids, Star is Better

For all the parents who ask which ship to pick between the Star and the Pearl going to Alaska, I suggest the Star. We love the Pearl but the kids club facility and kids pools and slides are so much better on the Star.

This has nothing to do with the kids club crew, they are great on all NCL ships. It is the physical layout on the Star is sooooo much better and I can hardly believe how they changed it on the newer ships.

There is nothing wrong with the Pearl just not a great layout.

I have to agree with you up to a point. I think the Star would be much better for younger kids perhaps 9 or younger. When we traveled with a slightly older child he was quite happy on the Pearl with all the various activities and venues. But I was surprised to see how different the design of thekiddie pool and play area was from previous ncl ships I'd been on. The Star and Dawn had much better layouts for the younger crowd.

Just off the Star with our grandkids ages 5, 7 and 10. They loved the pool area and waterslides. It was sixty degree temperatures but they still spend a lot of time in the water, which is heated.

They also spent time at the kids club and had fun, the staff did a good job. It was a short weekend sailing, not sure if they would have gotten bored on a seven day cruise. There were more activities for them on the RCCL Mariner but they liked the set up of the pools better on the Star. If only we could design the perfect ship with the best of all the lines.
