Car rentals?

We are going to rent a car when we fly in to Fort lauderdale and keep it for a couple of days until the cruise. Is there a place to drop off the car at the port or does it go back to the airport?

Thanks Kris

If the company you use has a desk at the new airport location then take it back there and then take the free shuttle to the pier. :)

You might want to look at renting from an off-airport location (and no, not all them have a free shuttle). When you rent from a company with a desk at the airport, you get slapped with a whole lot of extra fees. I managed to score a weeklong rental from Advantage this month for $115 total. (And no, there's not a free shuttle to the pier, but even adding a $15 taxi fare, it's a deal. There's also a Budget office very near the pier which has promised me a free pickup after my cruise...we'll see. However, they don't have a shuttle from the office to the pier. If memory serves, though, you could rent at the airport and drop there at no extra charge...should be a really cheap tax i ride to the pier from there. Regardless, shop around for discount codes. The one-day rental I got from Budget for $30 is three times that without a code.

If you rent a car from the airport take return it to the airport then use the port shuttle to get to the pier. Just make sure that the rental car company you rent from has an agreement with the shuttle for service to the pier. The one company I know of that does not participate is Thrifty.
