Fresh off the Triumph

November 8th –December 3rd.

I must say that this was a much need vacation. This is my second time on the Triumph in 6 years. She has really held up over the years. All the public areas have been maintained well.

My husband and I arrived at the port at 10:30 a.m. For some reason traffic was moving very slow. We managed to get into the parking deck after slow crawling for about 30 minutes. The porter helped us with our luggage. We also had a cooler with water, wine and sodas in it, but the porter told us that coolers could no longer be checked. He joked that they didn’t want to be tempted to drink peoples Hennessey. lol We ended up carrying our own cooler, which was fine. Embankment went were well. The staff was friendly. One of the security officers at the X-Ray machine did pull out her handy dandy ruler to measure our cooler. She didn’t say anything, so we grabber the cooler and kept on walking. We made it onto the ship at about 11:30ish and headed to the Lido deck for lunch.

We were able to go to our cabin at 1:30. We met our room steward, Ron from St. Vincent. He was soft spoken, but very attentive. He kept our cooler iced down all week.

We were assigned for the early seating in the London Dining Room. Table requests were taken at 3:00. We wanted a table for 2 and were told that we would be put on a waiting list. If a table came available, we would receive notice, but in the meantime, go to our assigned table. (It ended up being an 8 topper) The tablemates were nice, but we wanted to dine alone. Dinner was delicious. I took pictures of the dishes and will try to post them once I upload them from the camera.

We ended the evening with a stroll through the casino and listened to music in the area. Since I had already been up since 3:45 a.m., the sleepy man was pulling on my eyelids, so we turned in early.

On another note…I had cellular service all the way down the river. I didn’t have it while at sea, but I did have service in Progesso and Cozumel. We had international service added before we left.

Sea Day

We started the day with breakfast on the Lido deck. It was a madhouse up there. Crowded doesn’t begin to describe the shenanigans going on around the food area…and we already know the usual of holding tables and chairs. The remainder of the week, we had breakfast in the Paris dining room. I am from Alabama and grits are a way of life here. We take grits seriously around here. My only complaint about the breakfast was the grits. The grits they served were one step from being some kind of soup. I so wanted to go to the kitchen and show them how to cook grits. lol

The cruise director Jorge was fabulous. His jokes kept us in stitches. The last time I was on the Triumph, some guy named Skippy was the CD. Jorge was far better then him.

Karaoke was great. I like it a lot better then the guest talent show.

People don’t take themselves that serious and that makes it fun. They just sing and if it sounds good…so be it. If not, that’s okay too. lol

The shows in the Rome Lounge were nice family fun.

…to be continued.

Feel free to ask questions. I’ll try to answer them.

We had cabin 2275 on the Main Deck. It was located right by the forward elevators. There was very little noise. The only time we heard noise was when some lady was chasing her toddler down the hall…which I think happened twice. Otherwise, the cabin was not in a bad spot. One flight of stairs up and we were right at the Rome Lounge and purser’s desk. We didn’t hear the noise from the lounge either.

I forgot the mention we got back to our room we found a card stating that our request for a table for 2 was granted. We were moved to the Paris Dining room for the early seating. Our waiters were Raymond from Trinidad and Juan from Cozumel. They went beyond the call of duty.

The entertainment in the dining room after dinner was good. I have seen some posts on here saying the singing and dancing is cheesy, but I really enjoyed it.

The food was delicious. One of my favorites was the shrimp cocktail. I did have the warm chocolate melting cake 2 nights, the Bitter and Blanc another night and the other 2 nights I was too full for dessert. Another favorite was the crab cake. One thing that I have never read any posts about was the bread. The little French bread was the best. It’s crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. A pat of butter made it even better. lol

...more to come.

Trivial, I know....but did you notice if they had liquid coffee creamers or just the packets of powder at the buffets? Any flavored creamers? Were you able to get lemonade all day for free? Did you buy a soda card? Do you know if you can get pineapple juice with that?

Not trivial at all...you just like what you like. :D There was liquid creamer in the MDR. Not sure about flavored creamers. Lemonade was available all day. Pineapple juice was available for breakfast in the MDR, but I am not sure about the Lido Deck dining option. I'd suggest getting a big cup of pineapple juice in the morning that will last a good part of the day.

Probably a silly question to the more experienced cruisers but who do you talk to about seating for two? I don't care all the other nights but on our anniversary I'd like to try and get a two seater.

On the first day, it is suggested to go to the London Dining Room at 3:00 p.m. to talk to the Maitre' D. He will be there to assist with table request. My suggestion is to get there before 3:00 because a line will form pretty quickly. Once you get the table for 2, it is yours for the remainder of the cruise.

Great info! Thank you so much. I'll make sure I get down there early. :D
