Using taxis as guides

There are six of us and we are interested in using a taxi/guide for shopping/sightseeing/beach going? Are there enough taxis at the port that we will not have to compete with everyone else? Is it better to use taxis from port to shopping and then another for sightseeing to be left off at the beach and then another taxi back to the ship?

We will be in port on a Thursday from 7:00 - 4:00.

Thanx

St Thomas probably has more taxis per capita than any other place in the world, so there won't be a problem getting a taxi.

However, most of the taxis are converted pick-up trucks with open-air, bench seating in the back and they hold between 15-25 people. Many taxi drivers that offer tours that include shopping, sightseeing, beach, and transportation back to your ship will try to hustle for more to fill up the vehicle, though there may be some that are willing to take just your group. That would depend on any number of factors.

You should probably reserve in advance for a private tour for your group. Since the regulated rate is $25 for a "2-hour" tour like the one described above, it doesn't make a difference whether it's your private group or a public group. The most-often recommended tour guides on cruise critic are Godfrey, Sunny Liston, Air Force One/Papa Bear, Henry, and maybe some others. You should contact one of them and see if they will be willing to take just your group for the day.
