Magnum Jewelers on Main St.

We were staying at the Caneel Bay Resort on St. John, the best:D , and took a day trip to Charlotte Amalie to walk around and to shop. My wife wanted diamond stud earings. We went to shops where the cruise ships dock, overpriced designer things that could be had anywhere STAY AWAY. We walked back to Main St and went into one of the hundred jewelery stores that sell diamonds. While we were shopping at one the the better known places the saleswoman told us that if we really wanted to get a good deal on diamond stud earings to go to another shop, she wrote the address down on her business card. We went, it was a smallish shop that didn't look like it had great stuff, but we went in and gave the salesman the other stores business card, he smiled at the woman's name and sat us down and treated us great. Turned out they had some amazing things.

He was a good salesman, he showed us exactly what we wanted. Then he showed us something bigger, better and more expensive. We bought it and it was still a better deal on the better earings than we would have gotten on the one's we actually went for if we bought at one of the bigger stores.

It was a lot of fun, kind of like buying a new car but where both sides know that a game is playing played and both sides are more interested in having fun with it then in taking it so seriously.

In St.John R & I goldsmithing, Mongoose Junction, St John

A beautiful little shopping plaza, cool to walk around, stone structure. R & I makes interesting and and local designs. Not cheap, but worth it, sometimes you get what you pay for. Diamond studs (above) are a commodity, interesting jewelery is art.

Leave Cruz Bay and head around towards Caneel and you'll find Mongoose Junction.
