On Board Credit

Anybody booked on board credit with the cruiseline and what rate have you got?

 

We sailed with Grand Princess last May and after reading the forums people were getting $2 to the £. I realize that we wont probably get that rate now but I wander what rate people are getting quoted now?

If you set up an onboard credit, people usually do so using a credit card, and it is your credit card company that sets the exchange rate...so talk to them to see what rate they are using these days.

 

Any bank website will give you a general idea of the exchange rate.

I rang up Princess direct in England like many others did last year and you are right that I paid by credit card but they gave me $2.00 to the Pound.

 

In other words they charged my credit card in Sterling and not Dollars.

 

What I got was better than what the banks were quoting at the time as an exchange rate.

You can purchase OBC direct from Princess by ringing their office. The rate, $ to £, is set at the exchange rate applicable at the time you booked your cruise and does not vary. I got $2 to £1 for our August 09 cruise so bought enough to cover trips, tips, estimated incidentals and my $25 per night casino flutter. I was only offered $1.40 to £1 for my December 09 cruise so didn't bother to buy extra as my credit card offers a better rate.
