Hi all,

Looking for any info on port/shore excurtions ( family activities) from any who have visited the following places...

We are early forties, with 2 kids under 12.

Enjoyed city tours/historical sights/architecture etc, but dont want it to be too boring for the kids.

Would appreciate any info/suggestions on the following ports:

San Juan

St Maarten

Tortola

Nassau

Key West

Playa del Carmen

Grand Caymen

Montego Bay

Ciao!

Hello

We just got back from the Christmas cruise. We did not book any excursions through the ship and didnt feel the need to. We are in our forties with a 13 year old daughter and 16 year old son. We walked through San Juan up to the old fort beside the wall. We went through the fort which both kids really enjoyed. We then walked down the center road and looked in some of the stores and street merchants. It is a very easy city to walk and there are tour operators offering tours as soon as you get off the ship if you perfer. They seemed very reasonable and the vehicles were all new. St Maarten we took the water taxi over to Philipsburg (kids loved the water taxi ride). When you get to town there is a beach for public use. You can rent chairs or just sit in the sand. The stores, restaurants and bars are right there. It is beautiful. In Nassau we looked around town and my husband and son rented scooters. You can also catch a government approved taxi over to Atlantis for about $10 each return.

I hope this helps. We like to get off the ship and walk and see what there is on our own and had no problem getting around or filling our time doing this in any port.

If you are interested in horse riding ( don't need to be an experienced rider) there is a great stables on St Maarten called Lucky stables. I had a fantastic trail ride on the Atlantic coast that finished up with the horses wading in to the sea (they didn't go far out enough to start swimming). You nned to take a dry change of clothes with you but it was a fun way to see the quieter side of the Island and lovely scenery on the Atlantic cosat. the guide was really nice and they had a wide range of horses to suit all ages/sizes and experience.

They don't do an organised package where they pick you up, bu there is no problem getting a taxi there and back. They have a little outside bar area where you can sit and relax with a cold drink whilst you wait for your taxi to come back to collect you (They will organise one for you to return to the ship or in to the main town or beach for a while

You'll find them on the internet.
