Is there a limit on how much food you order?

ahhh.... i never thought about that!! That someone in first seating might be refused seconds because they have to keep some for the second seating people. We're booked into the second seating, as the travel agent recommended it, because you didn't have to rush back to the ship while on an excursion, so that you can make it back in time for dinner. Thanks so much to everyone for your help. It clears things up a lot.

I also hate wasting food, and can't eat a lot in one sitting, but i like to have several small meals throughout the day. I'd like to take this opportunity to try and experience as much variety in foods as i can (something i don't tend to do at home... i stick with my favourites). But if you aren't paying for the meals, i guess you can afford to try something new, and if you don't like it, you can always get something else later on.

I had a baby 8 months ago, and have finally lost 20 kilos of baby weight, so i'm certainly not intending to gorge myself!! ha ha. But i'm a really sucker for dessert, especially cheesecake, so if they have some, i'll definately be queuing up for it!

When we were on the Crown last January DH and inlaws all ordered additional lobster tails and the waitress "Helen" had no problems adding it to their plates.

However I would suggest ordering everything you want upfront and don't change your mind later or ask for seconds after you've eaten. It really disturbs the flow of the wait staff. They are running back/forth into the kitchen with several tables to serve and then someone wants more food cause their not stuffed enough.

Food for thought ;) no pun intended

Desserts are my downfall. I have been known to order 3 in the one sitting' date=' however, in my defence, if I have an entree (appetiser) it is prawn cocktail and for main meal I usually have fish or seafood. But I can't say no to the desserts![/quote']

Sounds like our orders balance each other out, I never order dessert (don't have a taste for sweets) and usually have an extra appetizer instead.

We were once on a ship with a man who loudly and rudely berated his waiter, the head waiter, and everyone else within earshot, because they said he couldn't have lobster, and his TA had told him that he could have anything he wanted (?!?).

Lobster wasn't on the menu, lobster wasn't going to be on the menu, there was no lobster on the ship. Apparently, he expected them to throw out the traps...

I was on a cruise that a "lady" at our table had had to much to drink on "lobster night" and missed dinner. The next evening she demanded her lobster because she had missed getting it. She was really em-bare-ass-ing. More to story - but will leave it at that. ;)

We just got back Dec 3rd from a 14 day RCL cruise and on the first night we were put at a table for 8. Two couples (one on each side of us-one a pastor at a small church in MD) started to argue about religon. We felt caught in the middle. I quitely said to my hubby we can stay here and suffer with this each night, eat at the buffet or move. We left before dessert and requested a move to another table and ended up at a table for 6- all of us had come from other tables for much the same reason. Really enjoyed our new table mates.

Found out later that we were not the only ones that left that table to get away from "pastor". Also saw pastor in casino, betting large, drinking much each night. Would love to let his church know what he is realy like and on their dime.

My DIL cruised with us once and every time dessert time came around, she'd say she wanted nothing. So one night she got a plate with "nothing" written on it in chocolate.

I can't remember the last time we ordered all the courses. We even ask for the bread basket to be removed. We get strange looks when we do that. I am quite overweight and I guess they think it strange that I don't eat everything in sight. We seldom gain much if anything on cruises.

Pastors are human first, then pastors. A pastor of a church I attended, years ago, would start having the board meetings at church, and when then went on "too long", he'd adjourn the meeting to the pub, and finish the meeting over a couple of beers.

And do you know that the cruise was "on their (the congregation's) dime"? Pastors get paid. They save. They go on vacation like anyone else.

He was telling all about his church and how it had 100 people and they had sent them on a cruise for christmas bonus. The drinks and casino -he probably paid for. I looked up the church when I got home. It's an interdominational church. He is not an ordained minister-but self proclaimed. No formal education at any divinity school. He talked the entire dinner about his life.

I cruised last year and about to embark in about 3 weeks, we never went to MDR, just did buffet. so how does it work,? how long is the meal?

you order starters,,then order entree then something else?? thinking about trying out MDR once on formal night...so maybe you guys can give me pointers..

I think buffet is fine for breakfast and lunch but for dinner on a cruise I want to sit down and enjoy a fabulous restaurant dinner. I find it's always a challenge to save room for desert. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ambience and wonderful food.

On my first cruise, 10 years or so ago, I really enjoyed the cheesecake. I'd order it every chance I could get (room service etc)!

One night I called RS and requested my usual cheesecake order and the gentleman (I'll never forget this!) said nicely/jokingly "ma'am, we are out of cheesecake...I think you ordered them all!"

So, on this cruise (it will be my 4th) I'll limit my intake of cheesecake so the rest of the ship can have some! :)
