Good thing I read through this thread, I was looking to see if someone posted this information.

So there are 2 types of OBC...refundable credit and non-refundable credit.

Refundable OBC can be is like cash, can be used for gratuities, casino, anything you want. If there is an amount left over you will be given a check.

Non-refundable OBC CANNOT be used for gratuities or at the casino. It can be used for things like the Spa, drinks, pictures, etc. If there is an amount left over, it will be forfeited.

I recently experienced this as well. I cancelled a 7 day and booked a 3 day. There was an amount left over, so they offered to OBC it as refundable credit or give it back to my CC.

I also used one of the Future Vacation Certificates which gave me $100 of refundable OBC (because this cruise was already paid for using the credit from the cancelled cruise, it couldnt be applied towards the deposit as orginally intended, so its used as cash) and $50 non-refundable OBC (because its a 3 day cruise, so the OBC is $50, where-as if its a 7 day,I would have received $100 non-refundable OBC using the future vacation cert.).

I hope this explains it all and doesnt cause more confusion!

Even though the Early Saver is "non-refundable", you can put all of the OBC into your account in the casino and then cash out the last night of the cruise. We had A LOT of OBC from ES our last cruise and cashed out and used the money for our shore excursions;) I read about it on here before we sailed and sure was glad I did. We didn't pay anything out of pocket the entire cruise, not even the extra tips- our OBC covered it all:D

Please explain the "how to" regarding the transfer of my OBC into "my account"(??) in the casino. Also, does anyone know where I can find the legal wording with regard to not being able to use the non-refundable OBC for gratuities?

FREAKING AWESOME! :D

But I have a question...you seriously won't have a $900 S&S bill after one week with four people?????

wow. that's amazing.

We really don't spend all that much on board the ship. I'm the only one in the group who drinks alcohol(and maybe I'll have, at max ,1 to 2 drinks a day...some days none), there are no supper clubs on the Victory, pictures, well just how many cruise pictures can you collect? (this is our 11th or 12th cruise). The casino gets somewhat boring after a while, especially when you have ZERO luck like we have. And we pretty much freelance(no planned excursions) at the ports. So really can I spend all that $$ on?

  • 2 weeks later...

We are sailing February 7th. On January 28th the price of our cruise dropped around $300...I emailed carnival about this price change and got no response. I called them this morning and the cruise is fully booked. He suggested I call my travel agent and have her check to see if she could find out the price of the cruise on January 28th, and possibly they could give us onboard credit. I did not print out the reduced price, I saved the page on favorites and when I went to retrieve it, it was just the blank page with no info, so I have no proof. Grrrrrrrr

Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?

Would love to have the OBC, but if not, we are SO excited to be leaving in 5 days!!
