We sail in 29 days on the Victory which I booked back in July taking advantage of the "Early Saver" fare. I was on Carnival's website late last night(about this time) checking this sailing for current fares and availability(as I often do) and lo and behold there it was....the big kahuna: both a Past Guest and a 6(yes-six) category upgrade promotion. I immediately completed the "Price Protection Guarantee" form on line and hit the "send" button. Today, I received an email from Carnival confirming my rate adjustments which will be issued as "OBC". The amount is unbelievalbe: $979.48. This is credit issued for 4 persons in 2 cabins on Lido(1 balcony in category 8D and 1 interior in Category 4G). I feel like I hit the Lotto!!!!

Even allowing for gratuities, drink purchases, playing a bit in the casino and incidental charges, I have never had a balance due at the end of a cruise anywhere near this amount. Will they refund the difference via a check sent to my stateroom the morning of debarkation? If not, do I have to run around the ship trying to spend it?

IMO yes, it's your money, you'll get it back just like if you paid your S&S with cash and didn't use it...

I wouldn't look for too many responses though... We're all very happy for you, we are, I promise... But I won't lie I'm BIG time jealous too!!!

Happy Cruising!!

Congrats on your massive OBC!

I booked ES for my summer cruise. You can bet as soon as the ES rates drop off the page, I'll be looking for a credit. We booked a suite, an aft balcony and an inside. I'm hoping to get something back on at least one of them. The new categories will make it a little bit difficult, but I'm gonna try my hardest!

Congrats. Last Christmas we did a family cruise on the Fascination. My parents had booked it back in the summer about 5 months before hand. Then the economy tanked and the prices hit rock bottom. We all had a ridiculous amount of OBC. There were 12 of us and we had a blast.

First off . Good for you. When my dad and I sailed a few years back they had made a mistake and we ended up with them owing us money.

They did not give us a check, it went back on our credit card as a credit.

Of course we had to wait for the next billing cycle on his bill to be sure it was there, but it was. Made his trip, we took the trip the summer he found out he had cancer and died the following year but anyone he ran into that was taking a trip he always told them the story about how the cruise line paid him to cruise LOl.

Again good eagle eyes for watching and jumping on it. we leave in two weeks and our price has not dropped anymore but I do have a 400.00 OBC for price drop earlier so am VERY happy with that!

Our group of 12 booked ES and over the last two days have received an average of 80.00 pp in obc. I have been checking the carnival website often and when i saw the senior discount i called our PVP, got the OBC within two hours of the call, the the next day checked again and the rate had been reduced so called her again. Not yet in single digits but doing the happy dance nonetheless:)

Also, according to our PVP obc is treated as cash, so any remaining money on your account will be refunded to you in the form of a check the last night of your cruise

Leaving on April 5, 2010 and my prices just keep going up! Why is that??? I mean ...I have been watching the website and it goes up and up each week.

Prices don't always fall. If the ship is filling up and cabins become scarce, they up the rates.

Does everyone have the price protection plan, or is it something I would have had to sign up for when booking?

OP booked her cruise under the "Early Saver" fare. This fare guarantees lower rates up to 2 days prior to cruising....with restrictions, of course.

Price guarantee and Early Saver are two separate things.

Op, WTG!

DH and I had an OBC on our last cruise. I paid cash on our account instead of using a credit card so on the last day (before dinner), I went down to the Guest Services desk and closed out our account and got the money owed to me in cash. If you don't go down and close out your account, I understand you will get a check in the morning.

I love ES and will book it again.

Okay, somewhat stupid/smei-newbee (only 1 cruise) question....is there a link/website explaining the strategies on booking a cruise and looking for deals/price drops/upsells? I try to read the posts but am having a hard time figuring out a strategy for my next cruise.

Thanks

That's great! Were you in the 8D and 4G and the upgrade was for an higher category or were you in a lower category and it was an upgrade to an 8D and 4G?

Does everyone have the price protection plan, or is it something I would have had to sign up for when booking?

We booked "Early Saver" in Categories 8D & 4G. Upgrade took me from lowest category in both interior and balcony. The upgrade fares were $429/pp(interior) and $749/pp(balcony) which is a significant rate drop from what I originally booked at.

Also, as someone else stated here, I booked "Early Saver" which allows me to apply for any fare reductions up to two days prior to sailing. You just have to be somewhat anal about checking fares on Carnival's website. But, as you can see, in this case it was well worth it. I will also continue to check for reductions until we're two days out. One never knows!
