klmorg Posted January 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Do you have to carry your passport on the islands or can you leave it in your safe on the ship? No, you don't have to and there are valid arguments either way. If something happens to you on the island, you would need your passport to fly home. We take our chances, usually take a copy of our passports with us, and leave ours in the safe. It's up to you!
Geek Squard Posted January 18, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2010 We left ours in the safe on our ship. We were advised to take picture ID with us and we did need this to get back on in Cozumel.
mjktg99 Posted January 18, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Do you have to carry your passport on the islands or can you leave it in your safe on the ship? We used our drivers license each time. Never needed our passports. Now, thats just for entry back to the ship for the local authorities. Some people will recommend that you carry your passport just in case you miss the ship. ichbinba Posted January 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Left it on the ship and brought a photo ID onto the islands. I don't know their reasons, but this is what Carnival recommends you do.
hartskys Posted January 18, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Great idea about making copies. Thanks! :)
momof4boys Posted January 18, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2010 We leave the copies in the safe. Most likely no problem and most posters here will say that they have never needed a passport. However, my friend works for the US Embassy in Mexico, and she says to never go on foreign soil with out the passport. If there was a freak event or natural disaster, your quickest way to help at the US embassy is that passport, and not a copy of one. Needles so say, we always take ours. Have a great trip.
