Aelsantokie Posted January 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2010 I've cruised before but it was always in Sept. and early March. I'm thinking about booking one during kids' spring break early April, am I going to see a lot of little kids or a lot of college aged spring breakers? I have one 8 year old and four 6 year old boys. Thanks!
HoustonTodd Posted January 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2010 You'll see both. Personally I try to avoid Spring Break as it is just a crazy time, not to mention the vast bump in prices. I'd rather cruise more in off-peak times and have more relaxed, enjoyable times.
#1TravelMom Posted January 20, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2010 Don't do it. We tried it one year. Kids everywhere! Also, 68 kids in the 2-5 age group play area instead of 20-30 - too much chaos for my little one.
cb at sea Posted January 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2010 We always cruise during the "spring break" months....no issues. Younger kids are kept busy and mostly out of everyone's hair..... Just because one person may be "partying", doesn't mean you have to. Your children won't be "exposed" to "frat house" behavior, if you don't take them to the nightspots! Citizen Jane Posted January 20, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2010 The majorityof college kids (6 figures per week) are on break in March, not April. Many online lists are incomplete, but there is a pretty ace irate one at: springbreakdude.com

Thanks! We are cruising during spring break this year. So far there aren't many people with kids on our roll call. We are cruising out of San Juan to avoid some of the crowds and elevated prices that go along with ships sailing out of Fl.
toonye Posted January 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2010 We are cruising during spring break this year. So far there aren't many people with kids on our roll call. Hi, I could have written that too! I'll be cruising alone with my daughter and I picked the Eastern week to be sure that she'll have fun with many children My TA promised me a "ship loaded with children"....but so far, almost no children this age on our roll call. Pleeeeeeeeeeeease join us on the Voyager sailing from Galveston on April 4!:D My daughter will be almost 8 by then and she'd be delighted to have almost one friend to play with  Re prices, I know you enjoy great discounts in the Carribbean that we never have in Europe but I paid a very fair price for this cruise. I basically had the cabin for both of us for the price we usually pay for only 1 person in Europe during summer... (ok, the transatlantic flights increased the budget a lot as they're much more expensive than the cruise fare itself...:() We'll save on the excursions, they're much cheaper than in Europe! So, please come onboard, let's have fun! Toonye
mary_228 Posted January 21, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2010 we need you to save room for the rest of us! ;) I usually sail with my kids on Spring Break and I always wish I could travel at a less busy time, when airfares and cruise fares are lower. Then again, I volunteered to be bumped from my flight home last time and scored four $300 vouchers! I've never minded the "crowded" ships - that's part of the fun vibe. I say, take the kids out of school while they are still young and won't miss much. With a group that size, you'll save a ton of money, they'll get more attention from the youth staff, waiters, etc. and they will always have each other to play with! Shelleywood Posted January 21, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2010 We took our 3 kids on a spring break cruise last year and loved it. We wanted to go when there would be alot of kids on board so the kids would have someone to socialize with. We saw lots of kids on board but didn't encounter any bad behavior. We also did not go to the disco, casino, or any of the bars so we wouldn't have seen any college age kids anyway. I thought Carnival did a great job entertaining the kids and kept my 3 happy the entire week. I guess it all depends on your expectations and the ship and itienary that you choose. To each his own. Try it and see what you think.
mom2jax Posted January 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2010 We always cruise Easter. Carnival from FL was a little crazy and crowded once, but the kids loved it, but I will never go back. Last year we did HAL from FL and there were lots of kids - even on HAL, we all had great time, I did feel bad for the 70 and olderish people on board. This year we are trying =x= from San Juan, I am worried that there will not be enough kids since it is out of SJ, we will see.
syrupcity Posted January 31, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 31, 2010 12 year old is concerned that no one her age has signed up for roll call for 3-31-10 Panama Canal Cruise on Zuiderdam. Being the Spring Break time, there should be some kids, right? Anyone had any experiences with HAL tween program? Have had great experience with Carnival's kids club twice. geegee1 Posted January 31, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 31, 2010 If Spring Break is anything like a cruise during February Break, i would never do it. Was on RC EOS last year duing February break and there were 1100 school aged kids on the boat. They hogged the elevators just riding them up and down and would usually press all the buttons on the elevator once the got on. You'd often have to take an elevator up to go down and vice versa. I know kids will be kids and i have 2 of my own, but i would never do a cruise during a break again unless i had to. Good luck.
mj cruiser Posted January 31, 2010 #13 Share Posted January 31, 2010 You have to remember on roll calls probably less than 1% of cruisers are on cruise critic dont worry if you dont see many on roll calls! Spring break brings kids! We love having more kids on board because my son is super social.
sandytoes03 Posted January 31, 2010 #14 Share Posted January 31, 2010 We've cruised spring break a few times. On the RCI 7 nighters I remember lots and lots of families, but not too many college spring breakers. I love cruising during that time. Such a nice way to celebrate winter finally being over! Have a great time whenever you go!
