Balcony Question

In June I will be sailing on the Gem in a balcony stateroom. From looking at pictures it looks like there are balconies that are completely open with glass and some look a little more enclosed with more of a large porthole. Looking the the map of the Gem it looks like our balconey stateroom is one with more of the enclosed balcony. Has anyone stayed in one of the more enclosed balconies? Were you satisfied with it or should I try and switch to one that is open with glass.

Thanks for your help!

The enclosed balconies are great. They provide much more privacy and protection from adverse weather. The glass doors leading from the cabin to the balcony are the same and so is the glass under the railing. I have spent the night out on an "enclosed" balcony. Some of the most expensive suites on the ships have them.

How can you tell if you have an enclosed balcony. Have already booked and paid for a mini-suite on Deck 11 Aft. I would prefer it to be an open balcony. Can anyone shed some light on this matter.

Many thanks.

I got my stateroom number off my confirmation then found my stateroom on the Gem deck plans on the NCL website. I am on deck 8 which is the same deck as the life boats and looking at picutures of the Gem it appeared to me all the balconies on the deck with the life boats were enclosed. But if you are on 11 it looks like most of those are the open glass balconies. The only exception are the ones in the very front or the very back. But if your stateroom in somewhere in the middle it looks like you will be ok. Maybe this picture will help shed some light.
