Thank you so much for the review and for the pictures of Camp Carnival. We are sailing on the Splendor on 1/31 with our 2 year old daughter. She will love the Little People play sets they have. Hopefully, the staff will be in a better mood. I am reading this review with my daughter next to me. She is loving the photos and keeps screaming for me to show her the picture of the crabs over and over again, lol.

Monday January 11th : Full Day at Sea Number 1

Before starting the first full day at sea, I forgot to mention the Welcome Aboard Show on Sunday night. We did not attend the show as we were too tired and went to bed early.

DSCN8463.JPG

I awoke fairly early and went out on the balcony to catch the sunrise. We were port side, cabin 8248, so we would see the sunrise on the way south and the sunset on the way north.

The Capers told us to relax and enjoy a fun day at sea, so that is what we did. In our first cruise, a four day cruise on the Fascination, we rushed everywhere to do everything listed in the capers and never did any relaxing whatsoever. We felt that we were only on the ship for four days and we needed to do everything to get the feel of the cruise lifestyle. On the second cruise, Carnival Glory out of Port Canaveral, we did probably 80% of the activities that were listed and again did not relax too much. On the third cruise, Carnival Legend out of Tampa, we still managed to do quite a bit of the activities, but that cruise had less sea days and one more port day. All that being said, this cruise, we swore before we started that we would spend the time relaxing and getting some sun, so that is what we did all day. We did not attend any of the activities that day but did manage to see the evening show : The Beat Monday evening.

DSCN8469.JPG

We pulled the kids out of school for the cruise for 7 school days but that did not mean they did not have to do homework. Both kids were required to write a journal for the cruise and both kids brought their math books. Here you can see Melanie sitting on the top bunk of 8248 doing some homework before breakfast. The room had the two twin beds pushed together for Jayne and I, the sofa bed for one child and the upper bunk for the other. The kids took turns sleeping in the top bunk, depending on the curfew each child had.

We also managed to decorate the door prior to breakfast as well. Unfortunately the person who organized the roll call and the activities took sick and missed the cruise (which would suck big time, glad she is better now!) so there was no real events that took place, but we thought we did a good job on the door decorations:

We ate on the lido for breakfast and then spent the day in the sun reading, swimming, hot tubbing, and

I even think we made it back to the cabin for an afternoon "nap"!

Okay, here are some pictures of the day at sea:

DSCN8479.JPG

Many people used the sea day to do what we did, basically nothing!

DSCN8491.JPG

The pool was very warm, heated I think for the sea days, usually I

avoid the pools but could not resist a swim with Melanie with the water so warm.

DSCN8495.JPG

Melanie had the splash park all to herself for the 1/2 hour she was in it before lunch.

Dinner Monday night was the first of two elegant nights so after being in the sun all day and after our nap, we showered and got dressed for dinner:

Dinner Time!

I took on two bottles of wine, both Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva which goes well with everything. The first bottle was opened Monday night and the second later in the week. No corkage fees were charged and Roni looked after the bottle each night.

After dinner we went to see the evening show called "The Beat". The singers and dancers this trip just did not seem to be very enthusiastic and just seemed to lack energy. There were a couple of dancers that had energy, but most did not. It was nice having a 10 piece band, a little larger than on past cruises and they played well.

All in all the shows were enjoyable but could have used more energy. Vroom was probably the best of all.

And one more thing cruise directors, the lady with the hat joke is getting a little long in the tooth, especially when the comedian comes on right after and says his mom is on the cruise, she got a new hat today.....

After the show, we hit the sack to be ready for doing nothing again the next day! Doing nothing can be really hard work you know?

Thanks for sharing your review! Love it! Can't wait to read the rest. :) Now you've reminded me (with all the food porn) why I need to lose the 10 lbs I gained from my last cruise... so I can gain it back again!!

65 days til Splendor!

Tuesday January 12th : Full Day at Sea Number 2

(2nd verse just like the 1st!)

Thanks for the comments so far. I always enjoy reading reviews with lots of photos, comments and food porn, so I promised that I would write one from this cruise to give something back to the board.

Ok the 2nd fun day at sea was spent the same as the first day, doing nothing! Jayne and I did basically the same as the first day - ate, drank, sat in the sun, read books, and maybe bought a couple of photographs. We did play Scatagories for a half hour after breakfast though which was fun.

The photographs were still all printed with no digital review option, but I think I read somewhere that a digital solution was in the works. I know it probably will not happen because it is so much easier for you to buy what you have in your hand as opposed to clicking to buy it on preview, but we can always hope.

Did buy one of the little drink cups for Jayne today as she has always wanted one but we just never got around to buying one.

Here are some photos from the day and then I will post the dinner photos.

After dinner we attended the Fiesta Latina show which I have seen twice before. Again it was entertaining but could have used a little more energy. Following the show, we walked around deck a little for the Rock and Roll deck party and then headed to bed.

DSCN8576.JPG

Smooth Seas all day long - saw quite a few whales and dolphins as we passed Cabo on the way to PV.

I love your door decorations, you did a fantastic job. I only wish I could have been there to meet all of you. I am still really depressed about not being able to make the cruise, since it had been booked for over a year, but it is better to have missed the cruise then to get on the ship and then have to be medi-vaced somewhere and cause the ship to be late getting to ports.

I am really enjoying your review, please keep it coming.

I LOVE the fried egg reference! Reminds me that my husband really could not figure out what they were and that was all he could think of was fried eggs. I think it was the last night that he finally realized they were gold pearls!

Did your daughter want one of the MonkeyHead Cups or the Funnel Cups?

Jayne and Melanie wanted the monkey head so that is what I bought.

I just remembered the past guest party was Tuesday night and we went to that as well. Free drinks, free apps and the usual slide show.

I sailed on Carnival Splendor last April. Although we did not get off at any of our scheduled ports, the cruise will always be special. I just loved the ship. I have been on 5 other ones, but the Splendor is my favorite. I plan to book the same itinerary next year.
