latrn220 Posted January 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2005 I will be traveling with my 68 year old mother and she is wondering if there is any shade at the baths or rather the beaches next to it, devils bay, etc.? Or if there is any umbrellas for rent?
Laurab23 Posted January 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2005 There were lots of trees. It started raining while we were there and we just got under them for awhile. Didn't see any umbrellas for rent. Laura
stebul Posted January 17, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2005 There is a snack bar with a covered patio, benches, and restrooms at the first beach (by the entrance to the Baths themselves). It rained when I was there as well, and everyone rushed under the patio cover. The trail down to that point is dirt and at several points the footing is uneven and there are some large rocks in the ground that roughly resemble steps. The trail is passable for many 68 year olds, but if your mom has difficulty going up and down stairs, must use a handrail, or has unstable footing I would recommend extra caution at a minimum. If she has to turn around, there is also a restaurant and gift shop at the top by the road. Devil's Bay Beach has several bamboo/thatch umbrellas. See http://www.thebathsbvi.com for more info (and a nice map around the baths)
