Denrus: car, driver and guide

On their site, it has this option for $350. This is not the custom tour where the tickets and times are taken care of and there is no waiting in line. This option means that you plan it yourself and tell the guide and driver where you want to go and when. The guide will help you get tickets, but you stand in line to get them and maybe stand in line to get in. The only places we will need interior tickets is the Hermitage and St. Isaac's cathedral. The rest of what we want to do is walk along Nevsky Prospekt stopping at several places and walking by the canal up to the Church on Spilled Blood.

 

Anyone know about this option? Is it a mistake no to do the custom? Will we have long waits to get in? Hope you can help! Thanks. Marlyne

Is this for one day or 2? Per person or for your group? The guide we worked with, Masha, charged about $35 per hour for car/driver and guide plus the cost of admissions. If this is being quoted for 1 day or per person it does not seem like much of a savings plus you would lose time waiting in line. The lines for the Hermitage in August were very long - we were very glad we didn't have to wait in them. If this is for 2 days or covers a whole group of people, you have been to St Petersburg before and do not mind waiting in lines it could be an option...

You are really such experienced travellers and so sure of what you want to do in St Petersburg that you do not want to take advantage of DenRus great knowledge, experience and expertise? I don't quite understand that.

 

We book a custom tour with DenRus, and were very happy with their help, suggestions, and assistance as we planned a tour of what WE wanted to do! As the two days went by our guide made suggestion after suggestion that proved to be perfect and make things easy for us.

 

IMAO, winging it on your own does not make much sense to us here.

We book a custom tour with DenRus, and were very happy with their help, suggestions, and assistance as we planned a tour of what WE wanted to do! As the two days went by our guide made suggestion after suggestion that proved to be perfect and make things easy for us.

 

IMAO, winging it on your own does not make much sense to us here.

Couldn't have said it better myself Mike. Even with 2 days, your time is so short, so when others basically want to do these things for you and you do not want to take advantage of them, you are being a bit foolish.
