Those who win slots

I am a novice "slot player". I play when on a cruise(only 2 cruises) and maybe 1 or 2 times a year at our local casino. I always wind up losing all my money at 1 machine. How much money do you lose in a machine before moving to another one and what determines which slots you choose. I have read alot about % of slot payout. How does the average person know that, or do they? Thanks for any and all information

I won 6 jackpots over the last 4 years ( $5000, $2000-twice, $1600-twice and $1800 ) I spent no more than $40 when I hit them if I didn't hit within that $40 I moved. But I have not played slots since July of last year, now that they have craps at the casinos here in Colorado I play craps all the time, I feel that I have a better chance of making money with $40 starting than slots plus it's a whole lot of fun playing craps than watching slots turn hoping for the hit.

I don't play alot of slots as I am primarily a video poker player however I do try them sometimes. If I am going on a 1 or 2 cent machine I will play $10. -- if I lose I move on. For 5 and 10 cent machines I play $20. For 25 cent machines - $40. etc.

It is important to read the coin in and payout schedules of the machines you plan to play. You could end up putting in $5.00 a hand on a nickel machine if you are not carefully!

There are tons of fun new slot machines out there which give you chances at bonus rounds etc.

Decide on your gambling budget, divide it by the number of days you plan to gamble and stick with it and you will have a wonderful (guilt free) time.

I generally play 25cent video poker and have won the Progressive Royal Flush many times including last week on the Liberty.:)

As with all casinos, there is no magic formula for winning at a slot machine -- it's all random. On my recent Jewel of the Seas cruise I was lucky enough to win several smallish jackpots which added up to paying for my cruise, my OBC plus some. No-one hit a huge jackpot that I know of. My biggest single win was $1,700 on a fun 2-cent machine but I was playing the maximum $6 spin. Cruise casinos do not publicize their % payouts and I suspect they're low - around 80% -- Vegas has better payouts. Having said that, I didn't win a thing on a 5-day trip to Vegas earlier this year. It's all just a 'crap shoot' as they say.

you usually have to bet big to win big on pennies if you play 20 lines on pennies and play one credit 20 cents you wont win more than a few dollars , if you play 20 lines on nickels $1 you can win like $100 or even $200 if you get a good bonus.go to quarters you play 20 lines its $5 per spin you can win serious money. Its hard to explain but I will give an example I play a machine here called stinkin rich its a 100 line penny machine that allows you to play 5 credits per line , so its $5 per spin max , with that being said I put a $100 bill in and play max($5) per spin ,a few weeks ago I hit $900 on the bonus round .Once I hit a $620 line win . Ive also had hand pays of $1000-2500 on this machine. Generally you learn the good machines after you win on them a few times ... hope this helps

I am a sucker for staying at one machine that is giving me playbacks quite often, thinking it will eventually hit the big one. I call this a loose machine ha, ha. I also know that many times I have just sat at a machine and after abut 3 pulls, hit a big one. Now do you stay or not? Hmmm! Sometimes you can stay and all your money can go down the drain and other times you can hit a nice jackpot. I won a nice jackpot once, got off of the machine and 45 minutes later, you guessed it, it hit the jackpot AGAIN. No  I wasn't on it. I was the stupid one that won the 1st jackpot and got off. Oh, well, got one jackpot :). I say it wasn't meant for me to hit a second time :(.

I am a Vegas lover and have been 3 times and we live in Memphis, which means we live 35 miles from Tunica which has around 10 casinos. I never play anything but slots and have never won more than about $300 at a time and that was only once. The truth is play for fun, period. This is not gambling that you make money at, period. I don't care who says they have a formula, or they know when it will hit, etc, it is all just a "throw a ball up into the air and if it comes down and lands in your hands" sort of thing. No skill involved, no bigger money means more of a chance (it just means if you play $1 each time, if you win, you will win less than someone that plays max coins, BUT that means you are losing more each time you hit the button and nothing happens too) My advice is always, give yourself a $ amount to use and nothing more. When it is gone, go to lunch!!!! Do not go back to the ATM, do not go get more money out of the room safe, etc. Do not expect a win and when one happens, put that money in the other pocket and don't use it. Bottom line, just have fun not expecting anything.

Slots have terrible odds...even on those that advertise a certain percentage of "payback"....that occurs over a lengthy amount of time!

If you don't hit something in 5-10 pulls, move on.

Better yet...learn BJ...better odds if you play according to the rules!

brnsnbrws: I first got introduced to slot play when I was a kid and saw Granny on the TV show The Beverly Hillbilly's watch pictures of sorry looking fruits. That is not a very good game if you want to win money. If you enjoy it then enjoy and have fun. If you want to have a good shot at winning and have some fun too play craps. It is exciting, and you get to meet more of your fellow passengers. You also get to interact with them as well. You could offer congrats if they win you money.

Do you have to max bet on slot machines to win big? Is it possible to play the penny machine betting 10cents and win more than 15 cents?

Let me tell you what happened with me a couple of weeks ago ( all be it not on a cruise ship casino, local small res casino). I sat down at a penny slot machine next to my mom, stuck a twenty dollar bill in it. Max play was a total of 300 pennies, I played that till my total left in the machine was at $12.00 so started to play just 60 cents a pull but all lines, I got into the bonus game. Pick 6 Australian symbols, in order to win the major jackpot, you have to get 6 of the same symbols, I got 4 of the same, the other two were crocodiles then they flipped over to match the other 4. I won the major which was $1152! On a 60 cent bet! Couldn't believe it till they came and paid me. Just goes to show, you just never know which machine and how much to bet at a time!

FUN, FUN, FUN!
