Weather during June in Alaska

We're interested in finding out about weather during a June cruise. Has anyone taken the Alaska cruise in june and if so, what were the temperatures? We'll be in Juneau on June 25, Skagway June 26 and Ketchikan on June 27.

I know its very hard to predict and we'll dress in layers, but we're unsure how much to pack. Heavy coats or just layers and rain gear?

Any help is appreciated.

It's SUMMER time in Alaska in June. And July. And most of August. So you don't need heavy coats at all, and not much rain gear. While you may of course encounter it, rain is more likely in May (if it's not snow!) and September.

You'll be there at the peak of summer (the longest day, meteorologically, is June 21). It's warm -- temps in the 70's, sometimes hotter, during the day, especially in ports. It will be light well into the evening, like 9:30 or 10 (depending on how far up the coast you're going). On shore, you'll see lots of flowers, lots of huge vegetables, everything green and growing.

The only time you might be cold is on deck when you're glacier viewing, or if you take one of those flight excursions to see a glacier up close. We wished we'd had gloves, as our hands got cold hanging on to binoculars and cameras. Otherwise, sweaters were just fine, and often shed as the sun came out.

While you might not be running around in shorts and tank tops, you certainly don't need heavy coats, scarves, hats, all that!!

We were in Alaska in early July... and even then (especially on glacier days) layers were important! I wouldn't bring a full-on parka, but we brought rain jackets and sweatshirts. We ended up buying a hat and gloves because on glacier days we wanted to be outside watching the glaciers calve. We ended up peeling of our layers on port days.

It was one of the most beautiful places we've been to. Enjoy!

Your best bet is to check the weather forecast about 10 days out and then pack accordingly... I'm in the PNW (Seattle area) and we just had one of the warmest Jan's on record. It's really hard for anyone to predict this far out....
