My DH and I did Alaska on the Ryndam and took a cooking class. We both enjoyed it a lot.

We booked on the ship - there was a choice of different classes and they have a list of the menus so you can choose which one you want to take. Book early as class size is limited and there were quite a few people who couldn't get the class with the menu they wanted.

There were a total of 12 of us in the class, the youngest being 15. I do not know if they have an age limit for kids as we were traveling without any. We were broken up into 3 groups of 4. One group did the appetizer, the second group the entree and the third group did the dessert. I chose dessert because we got to do Creme Brule and my husband's group did the entree.

The chef assisted all the groups, but we did most of the work ourselves following his directions. We got recipe cards for all items on the menu, as well as aprons and chef's hats which we were able to keep. The hats we got were actually sous chef hats. My husband told the chef he wanted the tall head chef hat like the one he was wearing, and when we were in the restaurant afterwards eating our meal, the Head Chef actually came over to my husband and gave him one of his official HC hats - my DH still has that hat and grins ear to ear each time he pulls it out. The crew really is great on the HAL ships!

After we finished cooking, we all then went up to the Pinnacle Grill Restaurant where we ate our meal and had a glass of wine - all included in the price of the class. And we didn't even have to do the dishes! Bonus!

It was great fun and we both learned new cooking skills. It was also a great way to meet others on the ship. I highly recommend it and felt it was well worth the price paid. Go for it! :)
