Hotel near London gatwick airport??

Will be on the Constellation June 18 for Baltic cruise. Will be flying into London Gatwick. I am looking to my fellow CC members for recommendations on a hotel close to London Gatwick airport. My budget only allows a 2 maybe 3 star hotel. Since I will be without a car, anybody remember a hotel that has a shuttle and also please, air-conditioning. I know this is asking a lot from a European hotel, but I also know they are out there.

How long will you be there for? Are you flying out of Gatwick again, or will you be getting transferred by bus from there to the ship?

 

I ask, because the first question that comes to mind is why you would want to stay close to Gatwick airport. There really is nothing there - or nothing of any real interest to most tourists.

There is, or at least there used to be a Hilton right at the airport. It was very nice. Since it's been several years since I've been there I have no idea what it would cost.

It's expensive, as is the other on-airport hotel, the Meridien attached to the North Terminal. (The Hilton is attached to the South Terminal.)
