Renting a car in fll

Has anyone rented a car at the FLL airport before cruise day and if so can you drop the car off at the port?

We rented a car from FLL last Sept. After picking up your luggage you go back up the escalator you can down, then go up one more escalator to the car rental booths. We sailed out of the Port of Miami, there was a place near the port where we dropped off the car. They loaded us and the luggage in a van to drive us to our ship for free.

If you rent from Budget you can drop the car off at a location on 17th ST. They have a shuttle to the port. We got anxious and didn't want to wait for the shuttle; cab fare was under $10 with the tip.

I've reserved a car with National and they have a shuttle from the rental facility to Port Everglades. We're getting in the day before and not staying near the airport. Renting a car is much cheaper than a cab plus we'll have the flexibility to go whereever we want the day before sailing.

Thanks for the info about National rental shuttle as well! I hope it is easy to use the shuttle, as I'd have to drop off family and luggage at the port and then drive back to airport to return the rental car to National.

How long does it take to drive to airport from port and take the shuttle back to port?
