jason534 Posted February 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I've seen a lot of comments about beer prices recently and have seen many different prices listed. So, I decided to see what I could find. I've found domestic 16 oz. beer prices on CC of $4.75, $4.95, $5.00 and $5.75 before grat. Coors lite has been listed as 12 oz for $3.75 and 16 oz. for the above prices. I checked bookccl.com/irman and it has a bar menu showing the $5.75 beers. Other folks have posted copies of the same menu on CC. Buckets of 4 - 16 oz domestics have been reported as $20.70 and $24.15 (with copies of receipts). Today I called Bon Voyage as was told that prices are the same on every ship and the current domestic 16 oz price is $4.75 plus grat. She said I could order them thru Bon Voyage and pay the local sales tax and no grat. In this case, the tax was 9%. Does Bon Voyage know what they're talking about? If prices are all the same, what explains the copies of bar menus and receipts showing $5.75 while many people report having paid less recently??? Any fellow beer drinkers have prices from the last couple of weeks?
jason534 Posted February 4, 2010 Author #2 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Just heard from a friend who said his mother in law paid $5.46 after tip for Miller Lite about 3 weeks ago. He didn't know what ship she was on.
klmorg Posted February 4, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I posted the beer prices from our cruise on the Legend last month for Bud/BL, Stella, Corona (and copies of some receipts showing 16 oz. Bud/BL is now $5.75 plus gratuity) in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1134386&highlight=bucket+beer Buckets of 16 oz. Bud/BL were $24.15 including gratuity. Buckets of 12 oz. Corona were $20.47 including gratuity. There are 4 in a bucket. And you're right... it looks like bookccl dot com has officially updated the beer prices there. That menu looks current to me and what we paid last month. https://www.bookccl.com/irman/bookccl/sections/shipboard/DiningOnboard_master.html I'm guessing the Carnival rep did not have current information. This happens quite frequently when calling them for some strange reason. But yeah, it really was $5.75 plus gratuity for 16 oz. Bud/BL.

I was hoping it was just that ship. I guess I'd better call them in the morning and see if I can still get them at the $4.75 thru Bon Voyage she quoted me today. Do you happen to know if they take the bar coupons ($5.25 value) or are they adding the extra to the S&S card? I like my beer, but at $6.61 I will like a lot less of it. fig414 Posted February 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Looks like the 3 Anheuser Busch 16 oz bottles just recently shot up from 4.95 to 5.75. In November the Coors Light and the Buds and Mich Ultra were all 4.95. That's quite a pop.

Let us know how you make out with Bon Voyage. Who knows they may have the old prices....seems that information passes down slowly at Carnival. As far as the drink coupons the servers are supposed to charge you for the difference in price. Whether they do or not is anybody's guess!

Guess they are hoping the new "locking luggage" rule will stop smuggling and people will pay more. Or, at least in my case, we'll just skip the drinking. I will not give anyone $6.61 for a single beer. Somehow $5.46 seems ok:), but that's the limit.

Whether they do or not is anybody's guess! I told her twice (Bon voyage lady) that I'd heard it was $5.75 for a Bud/BL/ML 16 ounce and she was very confident that all domestics are $4.75 fleet-wide. I'm just hoping when I call in the am I can still preorder them at $4.75. The funny thing is I'll probably order 10 beers each for 3 of us for a 4 day cruise, so we aren't going to save a lot. But, if I can save $30, it's worth it. Then I take the $30 to the casino and win enough to pay $6.61 for a Bud Light:)

Thanks!!! The only beer I could find on the website was a package with Bud or Corona that comes with a cooler, 4 beers, a hat and a mug. It costs around $35. To order any other beer or liquor, you have to call. They have pretty much everything sold on the ship. The number is 800-522-7648, Maria answered when I called and she is very friendly. Also, you will pay sales tax but not the 15% gratuity. Worked out to $5.03 per beer for us.
Dawn125408 Posted February 5, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 5, 2010 Wow....I just made copies of the drink prices last week. Now I just went to the same site and the mixed drinks - daiquiris- have gone fro m $5.75 to $7.25. That's a huge price hike. Beer seems to be about the same. nillachick Posted February 5, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 5, 2010 I ordered a bottle of Crown Royal ($55.00) and a six pack of Bud Light ($4.75 apiece) plus tax (7% for Tampa) through Bon Voyage on Tuesday. The nice thing is you don't pay the grat on every beer and you can buy as much or as few as you want. The rep told me that Johnnie Walker Black was $70.00, Jack Daniels $55.00, Regal $60.00 - and she kept pushing vodka and rum sales...My fiance likes scotch so I was trying to find a good bottle for him. It looks to me like they may be trying different price points on different ships. $6.96 is the highest I've found so far. With all the talk of locked or unlocked luggage, they may be cracking down on bringing your own as well. I don't think these prices will stick. They think we'll just say, "oh well, it's vacation" and pay whatever. I know we can't and won't. We're a group of 37 with probably 20 that would buy beer or some other drinks. At these prices, I'd say we'll buy well less than half of what we would have at the already high price of $4.75.

That's what makes me think they are trying different price points on different ships. The menu shown on bookccl.com/irman says $5.75 and some folks have seen that menu on ships and attached receipts for us to see. I hope I see your prices on my cruise. Either way, I'm gonna pre order a few more thru Bon Voyage at $4.75 before we sail. I guess I'm in the "beer hedging" business now:)

I don't expect them to ever go down. Cruise ships actually have pretty low operating margins and the price of the booze is one of the things that allows the rooms to be so cheap and the food to be included (although I've heard the total cost to feed each person is under $20 for the week!). The only alternative for them is to lower prices and sell more drinks, but I can see how they don't want 2000 people on a ship all hammered on cheap drinks, even though the casino might benefit. ;) Just bring on some of you're own to bring down your costs a little and a couple drinks from the bar each day shouldn't break the bank. Kerryman50 Posted February 13, 2010 #25 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We just got off the Pride last Sunday 2-7-10 and the Bucket $$$ for 4 Coor's Light was $20.47 including gratuity.
