Hi Robcool, don't know if you are willing to drive to NY or NJ but...there is a 9 night out of Bayonne on RCCL's Explorer of the Seas - SJ, St Thomas, Dominican, Labadee

10 Night out of NY - NCL Jewel - or Gem - both doing SJ, St Thomas, Antigua, St Maarten, Tortola

Thanks for the info! I will have to take a look, NY/NJ is not that much further away, but I may not be able to afford or get the time off to do a 9 or 10 day.

Thanks again!

bonstersd - I am embarressed to tell you I do not remember the casino hosts name. If you have played on a Carnival ship before' date=' I would e mail ocean players club - contact us - let them know your last cruise ship and date, the cruise you are going on w/booking number - you should receive an e mail back - They will check your play for the previous cruise - I did and didn't expect much - got a letter in cabin offering a free drink and 500 player points - which is pretty standard - went with letter in hand to casino, met the host, he actually walked me to the bar, we chatted and that began a week of several complimentary drinks. I was approached by another casino staff member however and not the same host for the additional drinks. They treated me very well. I thought the casino was very friendly and people were winning. If you find Darwin he will certainly help you find the host for sure. (If this is your first carnival trip I would still e mail the players club and let them know you are sailing for the first time and your name/booking number etc - can't hurt)

I did win several times and of course gave it all back - LOL - but I had a ball. Good luck with your play - enjoy.

This will be my 18th carnival cruise and I have already contacted ocean players club. While I usually get an email back from them stating that I will have some "free" money to play in the casino, this time, all I got was "welcome back." But thanks for the info...I will meet the casino host and I'm sure I will get free cocktails in the casino as well...I play a lot!

What games did you play?

bonstersd - I basically got the same letter. No free play money - free drink and 500 points which basically adds to your 1000 points to cash in for 10.00. I play slots and video poker.

I will have to check out other lines out of Baltimore that may go to the caribbean

bartleby - Maybe your friend had a crush on Darwin - not Denver? He was a slot attendant and was a real cutie. Always around! The host told me he was training to be a dealer and very well liked. Denver does not sound familiar but one of the hosts I spoke with said he was new to the ship about 6-7 weeks. I want to say Michael or Matthew but I could be wrong.

Since we were talking about longer cruises into the Caribbean out of Baltimore I became curious and did a search.

Unfortunately - Carnival only has the Pride going out of Baltimore - 7 day itinerary for summer months May - Sept is Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Freeport. Not much more exciting but better than Coco Beach and Nassau again.

The other lines are Royal and Celebrity out of Baltimore

Royal has the Enchantment - July Aug Oct Nov doing 9 nights to SJ, St Thomas, Dominican Reb and Labadee

or 12 nights in Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr 2011 to Labadee, Dominican, SJ, St Thomas, St Maarten and Tortola (they do skip SJ Dec 27)

Celebrity has a 12 night on Mercury Nov, Jan, Feb 2011 to St Thomas St Croix St Kitts Antigua and St Maarten

11 nights Oct 18 adding SJ and skipping St Croix and Antigua

or 14 nights to labadee, Dominican, Tortola, St Maarten, St Kitts, Antigua, St Thomas

These all sound lovely if you can get away for a longer cruise - more money but hey your not flying

Madelinerose - your right - better is a matter of opinion. We were talking how Nassau/Bahamas itinerary is getting a little old for some of us. If you enjoy the Bahamas that is great! Weather in the winter can be iffy therefore we were talking Caribbean for warmer weather.

happy_feet - sorry don't know - just drank wine - if you buy the wine package you can definately bring to your cabin. Maybe someone else could chime in with the answer re liquor. I do believe however if you order from Bon Voyage there is no grat added where if you order on board - such as the wine pkg - grat is added.

Just returned from a cruise on the Dream last month. It was snowing in Orlando when we left, so cold and windy and rainy in Cozumel and Belize . . . shore excursions involving water where canceled (so sad not to able to swim with "my" dolphins again). A tad warmer (maybe around 60 degrees) in Roatan . . . still had to wear a sweatshirt (bought two sweatshirts and one jacket on the cruise and wore them just about every day). The only nice weather we had was in Costa Maya and as we left that afternoon . . . it got really cold again. I've cruised in January before and this was the first time the weather was so unfriendly. But . . . as always . . . . I had a fantastic time.

Just booked the Pride out of Baltimore for next September. Cruised out of there in 2003 and it was so rough going around Cape Hatteress . . . I fell out of bed. But then I love a ship that rocks and rolls . . . guess it's the old flight attendant in me (flew from 1967 to 1987). :p

bartleby - I know exactly who you are talking about - red headed - tall - austrailian accent!! Thats not Darwin.

The host I originally spoke with and chatted with at the bar who recently joined the Pride was dark haired - no accent and was in a tux.

The other guy (red head) did comp me drinks during the coarse of the wek and was wonderful - but still don't know his name. I should have paid more attention cause he was so nice. I was actually comped drinks by three different casino people on this cruise.

pjless - good to know - the 9 night I saw was only for this year July Aug Oct Nov. I like Key West and CocoCay being added.

ladycaveat - your weather was not very good either. I guess you never can tell - would have expected that itinerary to have much better weather.

Last February we sailed on a short cruise out of Miami. It was chilly in Miami, VERY chilly in Key West (we bought sweatshirts to stay warm) and the only warm day was in Cozumel. Too chilly on deck to lounge around and watch the ocean go by - and teeth were chattering as we tried to drink our foo-foo drinks outdoors. I know that's not the normal conditions - but for me - I'm back to cruising in May/or August or September.

Thanks for the great information. I am leaving on the 21st and this has given me information to prepare for the trip. I have been watching the extended forcasts and they do not look to bad yet. I plan on renting a car in Florida so we can do what we want and be adjustable to the weather.

My first cruise was in the winter out of Tampa. My son was sea sick the first 2 days then it went away. I was wondering about the atlantic and how ruff it was going to be compared to the gulf and carrabean. Thanks

Of Miami last February on the 27th, and the weather was gorgeous! Sunburned first day. The weather on the cruise was good too, except the last day it was extremely windy.
