Meditranean Cruise

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done the Meditranean cruise in December...The ship we hope to be on at this time if we do go to the Meditranean. Any comments about this ship...Or places of intereset to check out that is not mentioned on the tours from Royal or the ports...I started my cruising last year on Independence of the seas with Royal and then this year we tried Princess (Caribbean Princess). Between the two I have to go with Royal hands down...The ONLY thing Princess had beat Royal in was service...The amount of people staffed on the Princess staff were falling over you as with Royal you had to track someone down..But Royals ships are setup better, more shops, better casino and Ice rink and flow riders and much much more shame Princess. The food aswell is 150% Royal the selection etc is that much better...So anyway please can you guys let me know about the Meditranean and points of interest to check out...My age is 33 and I look forward to here from some great fellow cruisers..

Cheers

Welcome to Cruise Critic, first I would recommend you visit the Europe Ports of call Boards, http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19, it is sectioned by the areas you would visit, Italy, Spain, N Europe etc and post your question for Weather, places to see, Hotels etc there. I would expect it to be alot colder. You didn't mention the ship you would be on so can't comment there.

The Itinerary includes leaving Barcelona Spain, then to Palermo Italy, then to Piraeus Greece, then to Rhodes Greece, then to Alexandria Egypt, amd finally to Valleta Malta before returning back to Spain

December weather is usually a bit better than January. We sometimes have nice sunny days where all you need is a sweater. It can feel quite cold though if it gets windy.

Barcelona could be quite cold (they had snow this year). but once you go further south it should get warmer

Having said all that, I would not take a Med cruise in December as the weather can be very unpredictable. This year we have had the coldest winter for many years.

Another thing to bear in mind is that you will have short days in terms of daylight. It will get light late and dark early.

People don't realize that Spain is pretty much along the same latitudinal line as NYC...where it was 32 degrees today... :)

Yes, people tend to think we are much further south than that. In the area I live (south east) we do not get the severe winters that NY gets. Madrid, however is very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer.

so its not the weather!!

I would say the cheaper prices are because of the colder weather but Christmas and New Year are always expensive, because people want to get away and not cook ;) and the schools are closed also, anytime the schools are closed the prices are expensive.

MAZANSTEVE:

would you go in Dec though? i really want to since its good deal. just need your opinion:D

To be honest, no. I go away mostly for some sunshine and warmer weather. The seas could be rough too. The Med is fantastic in the summer and would reccomend you go then. I know its cheaper in the winter but there is so much to see and it could be cold, raining and windy and some of the ports could be cancelled. However, if you were really lucky you could get a good week of weather, its unpredictable though.

I have been to Greece and Cyprus in late October and its been chilly.
