elou Posted February 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2010 Does anyone know if Princess tour of Blackbeard's castle and the historical homes are a guided tour?
hughdm Posted February 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2010 We've done Blackbeard's Castle on our own. There were informative docents at most spots. We enjoyed going.
SF Posted February 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2010 We are planning on doing this when we visit St. Thomas again on our upcoming cruise. We have been to St. Thomas many times and never toured Blackbeard's Castle and the historical homes. I read on their site that they had guided tours when ships were in port but when I emailed them in regards to this they replied...no, it's all self guided. Wonder why it states "guided tours" with two different times on their website. I don't think the tours from the ship are guided either. Think they drop you off and you are on your own to tour and meet up later.

I forget the name of the tour, but we also went to Magen's Bay for a few hours and then to Blackbeard's Castle. They let you off at the top and you can wander through the estate on your own. As someone else said, they have docents in various locations who will give you stories and information. It was interesting. When you're done, you'll be in the middle of the shopping district. We had to make our own arrangements to get back to the ship.
maxxedout2 Posted February 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2010 We booked ultimate tour through Princess. First timers on St Thomas. We got Jitney ride to Overlook for a few minutes. Megans beach for 2 hours or so. Then they dumped us off at some Rum Factory, gave us Rum samples and told us to walk about a mile downhill to the dock where we could jump on the harbor ferry to our ship. Really. I advise against this tour if you have bad knee. I feel this tour was a blatent rip off and the fact they made us find our own way back to ship really ruined the St Thomas experience for me. Every building they make you walk through on this alleged self guided tour was a gift shop...selling not edu-tainment was their goal. I am still furious at the way they hurried us through sightseeing just to herd us into cheap souvenir shops... ...but it is money that makes the world go 'round! :D:D:D Many people seemed to like this sham of a tour. Oh, when I asked some docent to call me a cab so I didn't have to walk through the obvious bad section of town... he said the 'tour' was not responsible for me if I didn't finish walking through all the gift shops on their mapped out route. Sounded like a threat to me..:eek::eek:. I was glad to see the ship and will never step foot on St Thomas again because of this ultimate rum factory tour debacle. But that's just me... some people liked it...thought I'd tell opposing view.
