Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not to take malaria tablets when travelling from Acapulco to Barbados through the Panama Canal, calling at Nicaragua, Costa Rica on the way?

I would imagine that many would. However the only one that matters is the opinion of your doctor. Make an appointment and do it properly. Please.

 

You can't rely on people here - who may receive different advice because of various factors that do not apply to you. I am sure no-one would mislead you intentionally, but forums are not suited for medical diagnosis.

It is imperative that you obtain the correct advice from health professionals.

We have a travel clinic at our surgery. We made an appointment to see the nurse and she brought up a map on the computer of where we were travelling to and from. The map showed the 'hotspots' for malaria etc. She advised us on the jabs and tabs we needed; there were some we didn't need because we were still covered by jabs done for a previous cruise.

We have just done a Panama Cruise with stops like yours and were told at the Travel Clinic there was no need for Malaria tablets as we would be back on board in the evenings when the mozzies are around.

 

But as a previous poster suggested it is worth asking your doctor.
