Is there a beach in Barbados that has no surf?

Hello,

We'll be in Barbados in March and wondering if there was a beach that has no surf but just calm snorkeling opportunity with gentle wave action?

We are trying to avoid any strong currents to have to swim against.

Is there a beach that we can get to from the NCL Dawn's docking port that has no surf like this?

We've read many, many reviews, but they all seem to be for stronger swimmers who like to body surf or wrestle the tides???

Thanks!

Once there isn't a North Swell running (as happens every Oct. - March!)

the West Coast beaches are calm, with the idyllic (Summer)sea conditions you describe. ;)

Your best bet is to come back to the island for a 4 day stay somewhere along the West Coast,

when it's really calm -and when all suspended sediment has entirely settled out..

..so you can enjoy crystal-clear waters gently lapping at the shore

but in Winter(every Oct. - March!) we do experience periodic North Swells

that come rolling down from seasonal North Atlantic storms (your Nor' Westers)

and they mess things up a bit!

We've tried speaking to the U.S. and Canadian Governments

about doing something to control these side effects of Your Storms

but so far nothing much has been done about this annual problem! :D

Mullins -on the West Coast, just before Speightstown.

ReidsBay-31.jpg

Reid's Bay -not normally used by visitors -zero amenities

but a typical West Coast beach nonetheless.

Reid's Bay again!

Sometimes referred to as St.Alban's Bay by the several coastal cruise operations

who often stop here for lunch and snorkelling.

HtownBay-413.jpg

Holetown Bay, middle of the West Coast -normally very calm.

Unless there's a N. swell running..

Payne Bay. Think turtles.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our query and for the beautiful pictures.

I'm wondering since we'll be arriving on March 31, if the swells will be gone and the best way to get to these West Coast beaches from the cruise ship?

Best wishes,

Skysilver

By March 31st. it's certainly getting towards the end of North swell season,

but no guarantees that's for sure! ;)

Best way to get to Paynes Bay and Holetown?

Either taxi or local bus if you're adventurous.

Other threads discuss the W.coast transp. options in some detail.

perhaps you can answer a question for me.

some years ago I was in Barbados with my mother and sister. We asked the Taxi driver to take us to a hotel on the West side that would allow us to use the beach while our mum sat in their bar area.

I remember that we drove to St. james.

The hotel he took us to was not real big, and had a small half circle driveway, with a small covered entryway.

we went in and the bar was ahead of us. Bathrooms and changing area was down some stairs on the left.

Once we got mum comfortable we walked straight back into the open.

on our right was more of the hotel, it was only two story, and rather like the motel buildings in the USA. in front of us was the gardens, with a pool, and behind that pool was an open area bar.

We walked past the bar and there was a stone wall framing the beach. you had to walk down a small path with a few steps (all stone) down to the shore. we sat with our backs to the low cliff face, and looked out onto beautiful shallow calm water. as we looked at the ocean. a small water craft came in on our right and dropped people off at the small point.

it was a beautiful place, and I have tried to remember the name for years.

perhaps you can help.
